Detailed Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

Maintaining a stable and fun environment on the servers, while dealing with problems that come up. Additionally, creating fun and interesting events.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I am interested in both making events and informing people about how to play the game. I am particularly interested in using the admin tools to make interesting events for some of the departments that don’t often deal with admin events, such as engineering.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?

I’d like to design new maps and events, hopefully also helping newer players learn more about the game.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?

If I had to say, dealing with interpersonal drama would be my least favorite task for an admin, though I wouldn’t particularly mind dealing with rule breaks themself, only when it is exclusively personal drama.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

I mostly play on Basileus, and in general, I feel like roleplay is held up fairly well. I feel that in general, most people stick to their roles, though I notice that many people are more than willing to break SOP somewhat in order to do their jobs better.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

I believe that adding new content and running events both help to make player experiences more enjoyable, or at least more varied and interesting.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

I’ve had many good experiences with the game, and some few enjoyable experiences dealing with admin events. Though I would just say that I enjoy the game in general and would like to make it more enjoyable with others.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

The only negative experiences I’ve had have mostly come from how specific mechanics work in the game, especially early on, though I’ve mostly come to reflect on them and no longer find them as frustrating.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

While I don’t believe random players should be able to force actions on an admin simply out of boredom, I may oblige in a different way through sending clown supplies to the clown or mime. Small things from CC that might make the game more entertaining for some players.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

I would first check if any admins that are more familiar with LRP are online. If not, I would start by ahelping the HOS, asking if there is a reason for the coup. If there is a good reason, I would ask that they arrest Captain as peacefully as possible. If not, I would let them know that this is a major SOP break, warning HOS. If they continue with the coup without good reason, I would then roleban HOS and warn HOP if they do not agree to deescalate. I would then message the clown, telling them to return or otherwise give back the saber, as they are not meant to be an antag, and shouldn’t unnecessarily interfere with the work of security or command.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

I would ask for their reasoning while mentioning the previous ruling on such a similar case. Consistency with rulings is important, so assuming they are unable to give any reason for the different ruling, I would go with the temp ban. However, should they provide sufficient reasoning as to the harsher sentence, I would then move forward with the indefinite ban.

Scenario 4

A brand new player has joined, chosen cargo tech, and instantly rushes to get satchel charges and other salvage gear. How do you act, if at all?

I would watch them, taking a mental note of their behavior. If they keep acting suspiciously or with clear intent to break SOP, I would then probably ask what they were up to. If they claim to not know any better, I would direct them to the QM, or direct them to read the guide book, especially in the case of no QM. If they don’t give any kind of good excuse, or admit to trying to cause havoc, I would likely warn them to try and follow SOP and not try to self antag. I would passively watch them for the rest of the shift if possible.

Scenario 5

A security officer, on code blue, spots a mime breaking into EVA, in response, he shoots the mime with lethal force then takes him to medical, in cuffs. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

Assuming that the mime was not a known risk or otherwise a threat to the station, I would send the officer a message informing them that lethal force was not necessary in that situation, and that he should’ve complied with standard de-escalation, especially considering the non-capital crime leading up to the incident. Afterwards, I would probably watch them passively for the rest of the shift to see if they continue to respond with excessive force in several scenarios.

Scenario 6

A chief engineer has been slacking all round, generally ignoring the responsibilities of the department, despite meteors and gas leaks happening all round. How do you act towards them, if at all?

I would send them a message asking why they are not doing their job. As a command role and the head of the engineering department, at least some effort is expected. Should they now provide an adequate response, I would probably warn them officially and ask them to act more appropriately for their role.

Scenario 7

You are adminning with 2 other admins, and recieve an aHelp, you start handling it when one of the others butts in to the aHelp correct you. How do you act, if at all?

Assuming I was mistaken or otherwise incorrect and was promptly corrected by the other admin, I would thank them and move on with the ahelp or leave it to them while observing if they are more knowledgeable about the topic at hand.

Scenario 8

A passenger arrives on station and starts skulking around in maints. Not preparing weapons or breaking into places, but gathering tools, insulation gloves, wires, gas mask, batteries, etc. How do you act, if at all?

I would watch them, but not take any action assuming they don’t do anything. It is pretty common for passengers to have a mix of random items on them, and as long as they don’t self-antag, I see no reason to take any action against them.

Scenario 9

You are playing as the HOS in-game when the only other admin online notifies you that they have to leave. Since you are an important figure, you decide to continue playing for the remainder of the round, going SSD when ahelps occur in order to deal with them. While playing, you arrest the clown for non-lethal assault against the HOP inside the medical bay. Just as you arrive at security with the clown in cuffs, you receive an ahelp from the CMO about their chemist blowing up chem. In order to investigate, you quickly hand the clown over to the warden and tell the warden to “deal with them.” While investigating the CMO’s ahelp, you then receive an ahelp about the warden beheading the cuffed clown. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

I would try to finish up the CMO’s ahelp first, possibly recommending a demotion or firing along with a warning if I find the chemist’s actions to be willfully dangerous and destructive. I would then go back and deal with the warden and clown interaction, in character. I would find the details out as best I can while in character, possibly demoting the warden if their actions are egregious enough without cause. After the round, I would chat with the warden a bit more to work through the issues, probably issuing a warning but not an outright role ban unless they give me a reason to do so.

Do you have any further notes or information we should know about you?

I am typically more active at night during lowpop hours, if that is a problem.
