Detailed Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

Game admins serve as mediators, and they serve to maintain an environment that lets all players enjoy the game without interference from things that may be unfair or unjust, in my mind.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I have played a lot of Goob, and I really like the server. Everyone is nice, and I’d like to facilitate such an environment and help out where I can.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?

Helping new players with game mechanics, mediating conflicts involving validhunting, etc., and perhaps hosting fun little events.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?

I’m pretty interested in everything that admins do, to be honest. There’s not one part I could pick and say “this one is what I don’t like”, but if I had to choose, it’d be moderating cadets / other intern roles who are clearly new for things like lethaling a tider on green.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

I usually play on Alpha, where there’s not a lot of roleplay, but MRP is pretty alright too. I enjoy roleplay, but the mechanics of SS14 are so detailed and cool that I find it hard to focus on roleplay when I could be playing the game.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

I believe game events and admin participation has the biggest impact upon the game as a whole. I really enjoy events when I’m playing in them, and it helps people when they realize that the server they’re playing on is active and alive.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

I’ve had multiple. When I first started playing SS14, I joined Goob, and admins helped me out with mechanics, and some finer points of the rules. I really appreciated their help, and some have been especially nice to me.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

Not for anything I didn’t deserve. Truth be told, I’ve been warned for validhunting and such before, and it was because I was fairly new to SS14 as a whole and even newer to the rules that surround it. Not that that excuses what I did, but now I am more familiar with the rules and can understand that what happened to me as a result was justified.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

Do nothing. Why would I do anything when two people are egging me on to do it? Maybe if more were asking, but only 2 people out of 3 is nobody, really.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

First of all, I would ask the HoS and the HoP why on earth they decided to “coup” the Captain. I would either give them a small ban or warn them based on their reasoning and prior history. Then, the Clown is definitely not allowed to self-antag to such an egregious degree that he steals the captain’s saber. ( I assume he’s going to hurt them or has, because they’re hiding from him and that’s just a cruel joke.) I’d probably ban him for 12hrs for self-antagging. The Captain, depending on what he did to earn a coup, may get in trouble as well. The QM has done nothing wrong, at least from what I can gather.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

I would ask the other admin for his reasoning regarding the player. Regardless, I would tempban him first, then ask a headmin whenever they get on next, and tell them all that happened. I would ask them if I did the right thing or not, and relay what the other admin told me and what the prior admin told me (that it was a tempban) and see where it goes from there.

Scenario 4

A brand new player has joined, chosen cargo tech, and instantly rushes to get satchel charges and other salvage gear. How do you act, if at all?

I would boing them to not explode anything with the charges, (unless they’re an antag, i’d check that first.) and of course, i’d keep a watchful eye over them for a bit, and if they exploded anything i’d tempban them for selfantag. But, to my knowledge, salvage gear is not restricted to salvage, and is under cargo, so he’s technically not doing anything horribly wrong.

Scenario 5

A security officer, on code blue, spots a mime breaking into EVA, in response, he shoots the mime with lethal force then takes him to medical, in cuffs. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

I’d give the officer, depending on his remark history, either a warning or a tempban for escalation. At least he took him to medical; but regardless, that was not warranted for blue. If the mime was possibly marked dangerous or wanted, I’d give the green light on it, (depending on what he’s wanted for) but I assume he hadn’t done anything prior.

Scenario 6

A chief engineer has been slacking all round, generally ignoring the responsibilities of the department, despite meteors and gas leaks happening all round. How do you act towards them, if at all?

If they are SERIOUSLY slacking off, I’d see what the people on the station do first, because such things are usually obvious to the crew first. If they fire the CE, I’d just give him a warning and let him off with a smack on the wrist. Same with if they never called him out, I’d just tell him at the end of the round he needs to be more active in dealing with threats. If he has a history, I might roleban him depending on what his remark history is.

Scenario 7

You are adminning with 2 other admins, and recieve an aHelp, you start handling it when one of the others butts in to the aHelp correct you. How do you act, if at all?

Don’t act. It’s better if they get correct information than wrong.

Scenario 8

A passenger arrives on station and starts skulking around in maints. Not preparing weapons or breaking into places, but gathering tools, insulation gloves, wires, gas mask, batteries, etc. How do you act, if at all?

Don’t act. Just regular tider activites!

Scenario 9

You are playing as the HOS in-game when the only other admin online notifies you that they have to leave. Since you are an important figure, you decide to continue playing for the remainder of the round, going SSD when ahelps occur in order to deal with them. While playing, you arrest the clown for non-lethal assault against the HOP inside the medical bay. Just as you arrive at security with the clown in cuffs, you receive an ahelp from the CMO about their chemist blowing up chem. In order to investigate, you quickly hand the clown over to the warden and tell the warden to “deal with them.” While investigating the CMO’s ahelp, you then receive an ahelp about the warden beheading the cuffed clown. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

Deal with the CMO first, then see what the deal is with the warden after. Depending on his history, I’d either roleban him or tempban him for a day. Beheading someone for non-lethal assault is egregiously wrong, and if a warden can’t deal with a lone clown in cuffs he has no place in the role. IC, I’d fire the warden, and perma him for murder, depending on what the clown did / his reasoning for doing what he did.

Do you have any further notes or information we should know about you?

Thank you for your time. I’d love to help out on Goob!

A wee bit late lad.

True to the above.

I could’ve sworn I stopped applications from coming in, so I have no idea how you managed to post yours.

At the moment, we aren’t taking any other applications, but if you’d like, I can leave this one up for when applications reopen. Would you like that?

No response. Denying.
