Daniel_Maniel Posted July 5 Posted July 5 (edited) Space Station 14 Username: Daniel_Maniel Banning Admin's SS14 Username: FungiFellow Are you banned from the Server or a Job/Department: Server The reason you were banned: Hate Speech- Malding in deadchat and called RD a mong (Slur used to describe people with learning difficulties) Everything that lead to your ban, give a detailed explanation. Relevant info only and don't leave anything important out: Basically, during and after a nukie round, RD had set up a teleporter that the nukies had used to kill me and flank the whole checkpoints made for them. I was a little mad at dying because of it and I was insulting RD. I was playing it up for everyone watching, I wasn't too mad but a lot of people were hovering around and I got carried away. However, during it I was trying to stay away from bad words, but, I fucked up and called him a mong. After the round ends and the next one starts, fungi explains the word to me and I get banned. (I have used "restarted" before, which is probably why I was banned for this one, but in this case I had no idea) Why you should be unbanned: Prior to learning about it from fungi, I had only heard the word from my friends and my parents, so I assumed it was short for "mongrel", which means like mutt, like a half bred dog. I didn't intend to call him an actual slur, and I seriously had no knowledge that it meant mongol (someone with down syndrome and WHICH I DID NOT MEAN TO SAY) and not mongrel (which I intended to mean and say). I can understand having my appeal denied, I should've looked it up before using it, but I got carried away and I had no actual knowledge of what the word meant. I'm a bit stupid if you couldn't tell. I really didn't know what the word meant, and its my fault for using it, but I don't want to get banned forever so I'm hoping you can understand where I'm coming from. It was just a misunderstanding on my end, and I'm really sorry to the RD for calling him that. If I do get unbanned, I'll take better care of my choice of words and actually do my research on what they mean. Thank you for reading and I hope to get back to goobing soon :godo: Edited July 5 by Daniel_Maniel
Guest Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Mong is derived from "Mongoloid" And Mongoloid has a rather unfortunate history associated with it. It was a Term associated with a section of racial groupings in anthropology but became dated and is now mainly an insult for the mentally impaired and those with Down Syndrome. There are some other meanings for it that vary depending on Region such as Australia and the UK
Daniel_Maniel Posted July 7 Author Posted July 7 In the future I'll avoid words like that, and only use words that I know the meaning and definition of, instead of an insult i heard in passing and just assumed the definition of.
Daniel_Maniel Posted July 7 Author Posted July 7 Also in my defense, if I did actually know the meaning of the word I wouldn't have used it. I've already been warned once for hate speech and I have been really trying to make an effort to not use any words that are racist or problematic, and keep my chats safe. This obviously failed because I got too worked up and used a word I wasn't 100% familiar with. I REALLY shouldn't have said it, because in the back of my mind I didn't even know if it REALLY was short for mongrel.

In twilight’s gentle, whispering embrace, I pen these lines, a hello to place. A greeting spun in hues of dusk, A tender touch, a fleeting musk. As daylight fades and shadows grow, I send this note, a warm hello. Yet in its folds, a soft goodbye, For moments pass like stars on high. Welcome, dear friend, to this new dawn, Where every ending’s but withdrawn. In each hello, a farewell's hue, For every start bids past adieu. So take this sweet and brief verse: A hello cloaked in autumn’s leaf. And though it sounds like Parting’s song, It’s where our journey now belongs.
