Daniel_Maniel Posted October 4 Posted October 4 ------------------------------------------ Check What's your Space Station 14 Username: Daniel_Maniel What's your Discord Username: 1anaverageguy How long have you been playing Space Station 14?: For 858 hours. First started playing around Jun 8th 2022 (Least from what I can recall). Most of my time recently playing has been on goob station. What's your playtime amount on the Goob Station Server: Around 600 hours How old are you: 21 Have you ever been banned from the Goob Station Server: Yes, around 3 times. Most recently was by greymaria one and a half months ago. Have you played on any other SS13 or SS14 servers? If so, name them, and tell us your playtime on the server(s): I don't really play on any others, least recently I haven't, and I don't have any notable hours. I'm a goob main to heart. ------------------------------------------ Time How many hours can you admin per week: 21 minimum, more like 42 normally. On what days can you get on to Admin: All week What timezone are you in: Pacific ------------------------------------------ General Questions Why do you want to become a Game Admin? Go into detail about it and tell us a lot about it: With the scare of the server migrating and maybe a bunch of admins leaving, I want to give back to the community and moderate for the game. I've joked around lots and honestly with my ban record I could understand not letting me admin. However I do have a lot of time of the server, and I spent especially a lot of time in the community discord, and I know everyone fairly well. As well, my later hours do line up with times where there's almost no admins on, which works pretty good on lowpop if I do get accepted. Do you have any prior admin experience on another SS13/SS14 server? If so, tell us about your experiences during that time, and if possible, give us proof of this: I don't have any admin experience on other servers. What role do you think the Game Admins exactly serve: It's a tricky question, but I personally believe game admins serve to keep the server safe and to make sure everyone is having fun. I don't think we should be going in and banning and warning every offense (obviously slurs and exploiting are different) but instead making sure that while the rules are known, allowing players the freedom to grow into the server. What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?: I think I'm most interested in just watching the rounds play out. I watch a lot of replays in my free time and honestly its just fun to watch goobers do their things. Maybe doing a little trolling with players who are praying or a giving a clown an infinite crayon, that sounds fun too but nothing too big to interrupt anyone else's experience. What are you least interested in doing as an admin?: I really don't feel interested in trying to ban people. Obviously raiders and such where we have zero tolerance sure, but I think I would feel bad banning someone over something unintentional something they just got carried away in. At the end of the day, everyone else is just a person at the other end of the screen and it doesn't feel right to shove the max amount of sentences on them. If I do have to ban someone, I want to make it very clear what and why I did do it so they have a better experience on the server. What makes you a great addition to Staff?: I don't know honestly. It's up to whoever is looking at this to figure this one out. I would say I would be nice to players and giving them the benefit of the doubt but I don't know if that does make me a good addition or just annoying to deal with. What do you think is the current roleplay status of the server, what do you think can be done to improve it: Honestly, while I feel like nukies and lings are a little nrp, I feel like the roleplay status heavily depends on the players. You can't really force it too much, but there's always better players who are more willing to roleplay than others. To be honest, I don't know what could be done to improve it other than warning the murderboning syndie to stop murdering all of medical with an l6 saw that they got a discount on. Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?: I think talking with the person is the best thing you can possibly do. Try to get where they're coming from, or if you know they might break a rule, just ahelping them and reminding them the rules is enough of a deterrent. I think getting the full story from everyone is the best course of action, as well as intent and the result. Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?: One of the worst experiences I had was just getting smited and banned out of the blue. While in the ban message I understood what I did wrong, I think leaving the player in the dark just confuses them, as well just aggravates them. Preventive measure should've been taken first, and if not, I would've told them exactly what they did wrong so they wouldn't misunderstand rules and next time have a better chance of following them. Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?: I think one time I was messing around with windows in a maze in front of bar and medical (which I forgot was there). Icepick ahelped me, told me it was self antagging but I thought it was funny. So I basically got the option to choose to take the self antag warn or have everyone in the lobby vote if it was funny (getting 2 warns if it wasn't, and getting no warn if it is). Obviously since I'm such a funny guy everyone voted that it was funny and i got off without a warn, just with icepick just telling me to not do it again. I liked that. I was in the wrong but if everyone was having fun with it there wasn't really a need for me to be punished. It also did its job, I haven't done it ever since, and I don't need a warn or ban to learn that. In your opinion, what is the most important quality of an admin?: I think humanity and sympathy are the most important qualities. While the rules are made to be followed, I think we should try and understand the person first before we give out sentences. Things aren't always black and white, and I believe we should try and take the time to understand that first before we dish out bans or sentences. ------------------------------------------ Scenarios Questions (You should put more than just one or two sentences.) It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”. I would A: Say "skibidi" and spawn a single toilet in the middle of bar (or do anything non destructive to the round that wouldn't bug anyone) or B: Just say "no" and then not do anything If they continue to pester me I'd just keep ignoring them and watching the match unfold. Say, someone who already has a note on RDM from before, for example, was to RDM and kill two people, but they've left already before you could admin help them. How would you handle the problem? If I knew absolutely nothing about the situation, and I've already talked to the two people killed, and both are in the agreement that they were RDM'd, I would give them a 3 game ban for RDM, and extend it to 10 since they did evade the ahelp. I would leave a note in the ban reason for them to appeal and explain their side of the situation since I didn't get to ahelp them. Then I would revive the two people killed if their bodies were hidden or medical just isn't getting around to helping them. If the two people explain it different and say a fight naturally broke out and they don't have any hard feelings, I would probably leave it alone since it was natural, and just stick a note on them for it to explain it to me later. This situation heavily depends on what is told to me, but in all cases where I do ban the person I would ask for their side of it via appeals or discord. Captain seems to have disconnected before they died or the round ended. This is the first time they've disconnected while playing a very important job. What would you do about them? First off, I would wait for them to rejoin before I do any actions. Sometimes stuff happens. Maybe move captain to the bridge while this is happening, to make sure no one steals anything. If they do not join back, I'd just leave them with a warn and shove them into cryosleep while announcing that the captain has gone "night night". If the person comes back and gives a good reason as to why they had to leave, I would remove the warn if the reason is good enough. If this has happened multiple times via notes or what I have seen, I'd give them a 3d roleban from command with the note that maybe they should stick to another job if they have to leave that often, and that leaving the game like that just leaves tiders free loot to grab. You see a chemist who has only made basic meds start gathering materials and talking about making uranium foam grenades in chat. Right as they start making the grenades they roll as a midround sleeper Syndicate. How would you handle the situation if at all? First off, before they even roll sleeper, I would try and find a reason first why they're making it. If there's a dragon wrecking havoc or a known ling killing people or a very obvious threat, I would maybe ahelp them and go "Make sure you're using this for personal safety". If there's no threat I would ask why they're making the foam grenades in the first place. If they have CMO's permission then I would leave it, but if we don't have a CMO, I would ask them if they've a good reason like "I'm planning on giving them to engi". I would leave it alone but just watch them incase they do foam up security or self antag. Once they roll syndicate i would probably go "nevermind have fun" and leave it alone. I wouldn't consider this power gaming or self antagging yet, unless they literally tell me (before they roll syndie) "I'm going to foam up sec" and in that case I would go "Please do not foam up security, thanks". also this is goob I don't even think the chemists knows how to make these. :godo: You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals. Having heard an AOS radio callout, the detective enters maintenance near disposals and shoots the passenger to crit. There are four players in this scenario, the clown, the passenger, the secoff, and the detective. First off the detective, while following orders, did shoot the passenger half to death. Which isn't very good. While they did hear a callout for AOS, they didn't question it and blindly went in to shoot them. I would look through notes and see if they do have a history of lethalling, and in that case I'd probably leave a temp roleban, and in cases where its their first time, I would leave with a warn or just simply telling them to hold on the lethals. The secoff shouldn't have called AOS on a passenger, and I'd probably just quickly talk with them and inform them to not do that next time. The passenger, while a bit of a self antag, I must just tell them off and tell them to just not steal a stun baton and run into dispo. Finally the clown did absolutely nothing wrong and no action would be taken. You and another Admin have been doing your job without problems, you then catch a command staff member misuse contraband. While you are in the middle of the ahelp, the other admin jumps into the middle of your ahelp with a rule clarification that is plainly incorrect. Without the interruption, what would have you asked the command staff member, and how would you have responded or reacted to the interrupting admin? Contraband on command is obviously a big no, especially with syndicate contraband. Obviously I would get the reasons and explanations of why they were using syndicate contraband, but since they were misusing it and not using it in a case of self defense I'd probably leave them with a note or a warn on it and tell them to not do it next time. For the admin interrupting, I would politely discuss with them the rule and also gently tell them to just discuss it with me next time instead of jumping into the ahelp. If they take it badly I'd do my best to calm them down and contact other admins to help with them. You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding Trial Game Admins, Senior Game Admins and Head Game Admins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available. I trust my own judgement for this. I would take in advice from other admins, but since its my issue that I'm handling I would trust my own opinion. If I feel like a player isn't deserving of a punishment I won't take it, and while 2 situations might be the same, the intent behind them might be completely different. Once I'd made my choice on what to do I would stay with it, and I especially wouldn't indefinitely ban them. Obviously I would ask their reasons for it and take that into consideration, but I wouldn't let them force me into giving a punishment I don't agree with unless they've managed to change my mind on it. ------------------------------------------ End Anything else we should know about or have questions about: I am applying with a ban in the 2 month range, which I can't really say much about except I hope you can overlook it for the admin application. I've already learned from all my bans and moved on.
