Game Admin Cheki Posted October 18 Game Admin Posted October 18 Check What's your Space Station 14 Username: Cheki What's your Discord Username: @cowpolice (cheeki) How long have you been playing Space Station 14?: About 8 months (OPTIONAL) How long have you been playing Space Station 13?: A few years on and off What's your playtime amount on the Goob Station Server: 187 hours with hundreds more to come How old are you: 27 👴🏻 Have you ever been banned from the Goob Station Server: No Have you played on any other SS13 or SS14 servers? If so, name them, and tell us your playtime on the server(s): SS14 - Wizden - ~320 hours SS13 - Monke / TG / Paradise - ~ 500 hours combined ------------------------------------------ Time How many hours can you admin per week: Depending on my irl workload: 10 - 15 hours. Sometimes I even play while at work. On what days can you get on to Admin: Monday - Sunday, primarily Friday, Saturday, Sunday evenings eastern time. What timezone are you in: EST ------------------------------------------ General Questions Why do you want to become a Game Admin? Go into detail about it and tell us a lot about it: Becoming an admin is a way to give back to the community that has provided me with countless hours of entertainment and friendship. I enjoy guiding new players, helping them have a positive experience while enforcing the rules that keep the game fun. I’ve seen how well moderators servers run versus those where the moderation isn’t as good and I’m motivated to contribute to creating a fun and well regulated game. Do you have any prior admin or staff experience on another SS13/SS14 server? If so, tell us about your experiences during that time, and if possible, give us proof of this: Nope! What role do you think Game Admins serve, in detail: Admins at their core are responsible for ensuring that the rules of the server are upheld. I believe they’re much more than that, personally. To me, a good admin is someone who is good at conflict resolution and can calmly handle IC and OOC issues/conflicts with a level head. A good admin never lets their emotions get the best of them. Admins shouldn’t only enforce the rules and call it a day, they should also serve as mentors to the community and lead by example. What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?: Helping new players learn, facilitating a friendly and enjoyable environment, and being a community leader that players can rely on. What are you least interested in doing as an admin?: Time transfers maybe? Not super interested in events either. What makes you a great addition to staff?: I’m thick skinned, level headed, and calm. I think being a bit older can be an advantage, I can bring a different perspective to situations. I also know git and have contributed a decent amount to the server already in the form of art and other GitHub PRs. What do you think is the current roleplay status of the LRP server, what do you think can be done to improve it: From my experience the LRP server is an accurate description. I know people used to meme and say it’s NRP anarchy but it’s really not. I believe it’s in a good position where it is, and with the addition of the MRP server it’s more beneficial for the players that want a slower paced, role playing environment. Before the addition of the MRP server I would run into players who would try to RP and get shut down by other players who weren’t interested. (OPTIONAL) What do you think is the current roleplay status of the MRP server, what do you think can be done to improve it: I haven’t played on it yet. Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?: I believe the best impact is positive reinforcement. Encouraging players to ahelp with anything, not just reporting rule breaks. Leading by example is a big belief I have. Have you ever had a negative experience with a game admin (even on another SS13/14 server)? If so what, if anything, would you do differently?: I haven’t had a negative experience with any of the admins. Have you ever had a good experience with a game admin? If so, what was it?: Yes! When I first started playing on Goob either CBozo or Ratissar (can’t remember which) reached out to me when I was an antag without me asking for help first, reminding me that the SM was radioactive and I would need a radsuit or some way to prevent radiation damage if I wanted to successfully steal a sliver of it. Even though it’s a very small thing, it really stuck out to me because they could have just left me to struggle. In your opinion, what is the most important quality in an admin?: Personally, the most important aspect of an admin is one that can be level headed and reasonable. Instead of “it’s my way or the highway”, being able to recognize and self reflect when a potential mistake has been made. ------------------------------------------ Scenarios Questions (You should put more than just one or two sentences.) It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”. As an admin I’m not required to entertain or interact with them, and would never give in to pressure, especially when it could affect the round for others. However, i could spawn some centcom ghost roles that they could play and be able to interact with the other players in the round in an engaging way. Say, someone who already has a note on RDM from before, for example, was to RDM and kill two people, but they've left already before you could admin help them. How would you handle the problem? So I would consider this textbook ahelp evading and as per the Goob banning policy would extend their base ban by 7 days. I’d wait a few minutes to ensure that it wasn’t a mistake and they weren’t having connectivity issues, then proceed with a 2 week ban at minimum, potentially an appeal ban with instructions in the ban message on how to go about doing that. The Captain has disconnected before they died or the round ended. This is the first time they've disconnected while playing a very important job. What do you do? If this is the players very first infraction of any kind, then I could reasonably say that just putting them in cryo so someone else can join as captain is fine. However if they have prior warnings or notes then a temporary role ban is justified. You see a chemist who has only made basic meds start gathering materials and talking about making uranium foam grenades in chat. Right as they start making the grenades they roll as a midround sleeper Syndicate. How would you handle the situation if at all? This could be considered powergaming / metagaming. Prepping grenades as a non-antag says to me that they’re up to no good anyway, but rolling antag would be their golden ticket to use as an excuse. I’d hit them with a powergaming note. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why. This is an interesting one. Rioting of any kind isn’t allowed and would be a game ban. That being said if the HoS and HoP were role playing and had an actual IC reason to want to get rid of the captain other than just “fuck it lets self-antag” I could see it being a fun RP opportunity. The clown is a different unrelated issue that is self-antagging. I know clown gets up to shenanigans, but if they’re genuinely being a nuisance and not giving back the saber then it’s a warn / potential ban depending on their history. Cap and QM have done nothing wrong in this scenario, but I’d need to know the full context. You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals. Having heard an AOS radio callout, the detective enters maintenance near disposals and shoots the passenger to crit. There are four players in this scenario, the clown, the passenger, the secoff, and the detective. The initial scenario of the clown and secoff is an IC issue imo. It can be solved through RP and is much more entertaining that way instead of slapping every clown with a self-antag note. The passenger, if not an antag would be a warn / potential ban depending on their history for self-antagging. I would definitely have a discussion with the detective for over escalation. There was no reason to lethal the passenger when presumably all they had was a baton and weren’t dangerous. You and another Admin have been doing your job without problems, you then catch a command staff member misuse contraband. While you are in the middle of the ahelp, the other admin jumps into the middle of your ahelp with a rule clarification that is plainly incorrect. Without the interruption, what would have you asked the command staff member, and how would you have responded or reacted to the interrupting admin? I would move to the admin chat with the interfering admin and kindly ask them to stop interrupting a current ahelp, and inform them that while I appreciate their effort to help, they provided incorrect information. In the ahelp I would apologize for the misunderstanding and reiterate the correct information. I would inform the command member that they shouldn’t be using contraband without the HoS or Captains approval first. You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding Trial Game Admins, Senior Game Admins and Head Game Admins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available. Unless I’m mistaken, if I’m a full admin it is my decision to make and im not required to do what they say unless they’re a higher rank than me. If I’m a trial admin however, I would listen to them. I would have a lot of learning opportunities from admins with way more experience than me. ------------------------------------------ End Anything else we should know about or have questions about: I love Goob and am passionate about this server. No matter the decision I will strive to continue to make the server a fun and enjoyable experience for all players!
