BlueRobot Posted October 19 Posted October 19 What's your Space Station 14 Username: BlueRobot What's your Discord Username: ThatBlueGuy How long have you been playing Space Station 14?: Since June this year What's your playtime amount on the Goob Station Server: 78.5hr's How old are you: 23 Have you ever been banned from the Goob Station Server: No Have you played on any other SS13 or SS14 servers? If so, name them, and tell us your playtime on the server(s): Wizden: 35hr's ------------------------------------------ Time How many hours can you admin per week: I've played around 46ish hours the past two weeks, so I'll be on the server for at least 10+ hours most weeks. On what days can you get on to Admin: Guaranteed Sunday and days I do not work (Work schedule changes every week, but I am 3 on, 4 off most weeks) , a small bit on work days. What timezone are you in: BST ------------------------------------------ General Questions Why do you want to become a Game Admin? Go into detail about it and tell us a lot about it: The player base is growing, and so is the game itself, I see myself continuing to play this game as it does and I feel like why not help out as well. I think good staffing is vital to keeping people interested and comfortable in playing in a server so I would like to help players feel that way on Goob. Specifically for Goob as well, I think most of it's added features add more to the game and make it 100% more interesting and thus is the reason I play here and am interested in it's direction. Do you have any prior admin or staff experience on another SS13/SS14 server? If so, tell us about your experiences during that time, and if possible, give us proof of this: I do not What role do you think Game Admins serve, in detail: Keeping players interested in the game and comfortable, this includes both sides of: Making the game fun with events, player interactions and good humour as well as keeping others from stalling rounds, killing people for no reason etc. What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?: Helping new players feel stable in Goob as well as keep the server running smoothly, making people feel heard and hopefully avoiding frustration and anger. What are you least interested in doing as an admin?: I would feel hesitant to do events, unless someone taught me how to do them WELL, and which ones people liked, I would probably stay clear of it, as doing bad events or doing them wrong just ruins people's fun, and that's not what I am here for. What makes you a great addition to staff?: A lot of empathy and understanding, I mediate a lot in life where people are frustrated and annoyed, and I am able to calm them down, explain everything and help them to the point where they feel satisfied, even if what they wanted initially could not be done. Also if goob is opening up EU server again then my timings would work well with it. What do you think is the current roleplay status of the LRP server, what do you think can be done to improve it: With new players and a lot of people using the chaos of high player count to self antag, I would say it is the very definition of LRP. This is easily remedied with helping the new players learn and understand the vibe of the server while catching those who intentionally use this period of adjustment to ruins other people game. Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?: Speaking with those effected. You may have banned the problematic player, but what about those who were effected? They might not even know the person was banned so they think their Ahelps and grievances went unheard. Always let them know that the situation has been resolved and thank them for providing the necessary information, that way, people feel like they have a voice and feel safe. Have you ever had a negative experience with a game admin (even on another SS13/14 server)? If so what, if anything, would you do differently?: Yes, there was an admin who used their powers to constantly play ear splitting music, and when asked by multiple people to stop, they just laughed and told them to turn off music in the settings. When Ahelped, they simply put: "L". Making players have to change a setting to stop something you are doing TO THEM is not appropriate, if I was the one doing this and received these comments and Ahelps, I would apologise, stop and not do it again unless requested or within a low pop environment where you know people would find it funny. Have you ever had a good experience with a game admin? If so, what was it?: Yes, I Ahelped someone who made me quite angry during the game, the admin responded quick and asked questions to better understand the situation. They then talked to the person, and even though it was just a warning, I felt happy that I at least knew that the person was told that what they were doing was wrong, as I felt like that person would then go on to further rounds feeling justified. In your opinion, what is the most important quality in an admin?: Calmness and understanding, an admin should not lose their cool as everyone else is going to have varied emotions, the admin should be the voice of reason and understand everyone's positions and help them out as best as they can. ------------------------------------------ Scenarios Questions (You should put more than just one or two sentences.) It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”. There is nothing wrong with this situation. These players have chosen to observe, saw me, an admin, and wished to see me do something. Although I would politely decline, I would not be upset or annoyed in this situation. The only issue would be if they were to continue to pester or become agitated at my declination. Maybe, once I feel comfortable in my role, I would be able to do something small for them to give them something fun, but again I would not currently know the best thing to provide them without effecting others. Say, someone who already has a note on RDM from before, for example, was to RDM and kill two people, but they've left already before you could admin help them. How would you handle the problem? As this is their second offence, the minimum would be 6 days, as it's 3 days with two victims, assuming in this situation the person did not die and just ghosted after their RDM's, we can assume they left to avoid the Ahelp, which would add another 7 days to their ban, so in total the minimum time would be 13 days. Depending on the type of player they are, it could be argued that their ban should be permanent, as this is the second time they have done it AND they left before they could see the consequences. Talking to other admins at this point would be beneficial to see their opinions on this player and their actions. The Captain has disconnected before they died or the round ended. This is the first time they've disconnected while playing a very important job. What do you do? First time is just a warning, they may not be aware how detrimental it is for them to AFK (SSD), especially if this is just leaving and not cryo. If possible, I would leave a message letting them know why they have a warning and it's important to get to cryo, let others know etc before they leave. You see a chemist who has only made basic meds start gathering materials and talking about making uranium foam grenades in chat. Right as they start making the grenades they roll as a midround sleeper Syndicate. How would you handle the situation if at all? Nothing can be done about the situation now it has happened, especially as they are an actual antagonist now, but I would warn them that they should not be going outside of their job role so heavily, as quickly as they did without providing the necessary materials their job is expected to provide (Advanced brute meds etc). It could also be seen as power gaming or self antagging, but again a warn here is the only thing necessary. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why. This heavily depends on WHY they are couping the captain, if the captain is being a problem to the point where he would be getting himself a punishment from an admin, and the heads were doing everything through roleplay, leniency could be applied. However, on the assumption that the captain has done nothing to warrant this coup, this is how it would go (and assuming all first offences) Head of security: Self antag revolution: 12hr-3 day ban, double due to being command/security (Both in this case) so 24hr minimum to 6 day maximum. Head of personnel: Self antag revolution: Once again 12hr-3 day ban, doubled to 24hr-6 day ban. Clown: Although a clown is supposed to cause chaos and be funny, this is still self-antag behaviour, but I do not see a ban necessary for this, a warning is necessary if they do not give the saber back. Due to this situation being complicated, I would probably reach for a second opinion and see what others think is necessary. You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals. Having heard an AOS radio callout, the detective enters maintenance near disposals and shoots the passenger to crit. There are four players in this scenario, the clown, the passenger, the secoff, and the detective. Clown, although breaking the law, is not breaking any admin rules. Security is doing their job IF the clown resisted arrest, if they did not, just arrest them, no need to stun. Passenger, if not antagonist, is self antagging, they would be Ahelped to be warned and talked to about the incident, depending on the response, it could be left as a warning or go further into a 12hr ban. Detective was in a tight environment, knowing the passenger is aggressive and having a dangerous weapon, is right to use lethal thought if they deemed necessary, only issue would be if they did not take them to medical afterwards or straight up killed them. You and another Admin have been doing your job without problems, you then catch a command staff member misuse contraband. While you are in the middle of the ahelp, the other admin jumps into the middle of your ahelp with a rule clarification that is plainly incorrect. Without the interruption, what would have you asked the command staff member, and how would you have responded or reacted to the interrupting admin? Trying to correct me within the Ahelp is deliberately trying to make me look incompetent in front of someone else, I would ask them politely (Privately) to please talk to me in private about issues they have and not to interrupt my Ahelp without permission. I would explain the mistake to the player within the Ahelp and hope that they are happy to continue. For the command staff, they may not be aware that, as command, they have to follow space law more carefully, an Ahelp is good enough as a reminder, if they continue, it would be a warning for not following space law. If they get permission or stop using it, then no warning is required as something like that can be easily forgotten. You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding Trial Game Admins, Senior Game Admins and Head Game Admins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available. As everyone is the same rank, I would thank the pinging admin for their help but will use my own judgement for this case, as it seems there are varying opinions happening here. If in doubt, I would simply follow the guidelines that are currently provided to me which are official, a higher admin may input their thoughts on it once the initial punishment is given and a headmin comes online to see it. I may even seek their opinion out for future situations. ------------------------------------------ End Anything else we should know about or have questions about: None currently
