Detailed Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
You have to make sure you’re checking on someone who’s not following the rules, memorizing or having a sheet for a warning and banning policy and rules, there’s a lot of differences between notes, warnings and bans so knowing the conditions under which those apply and change matters and so using all of that to make the rounds run smoothly.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I’ve been passionate about goobstation ever since i joined about a year ago near the start and that never changed no matter what happened in the community, i want to share that with others and help bring new people in like referencing space station in other places, admining lets me help the community inside too in a more active way.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?
Following the round to keep people from going overboard with stuff that might then be considered rule breaking and especially trying to help guide new players with things they might not know or understand to grow goob.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin?
Checking appeals and replays, knowing i could be on the appeals committee because of some miscommunication from admin to player, different understanding of wording or a language barrier feels like it could be a bit of a waste of time, numbing or involve questions about how people view how things were said which puts personal understanding of something over set game mechanics.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
People in LRP are a little brain rotted, the best i can think of to help ease it a little is additions like the “spam scream smite” that’s funny enough to make people like it and discourages spam, like how messages were changed from repeating to just adding a small “x4” to the same message instead, it’s a small mechanical and quality of life difference that we should encourage the creation of by supporting maintainers ideas, on another note we should find a way to reinforce more RP in general in goob to stop groups of syndies being discount nukie teams because one used codewords over radio and saw “steal RDs suit” as kill all of sec and command.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Reinforcing good behaviour and RP in current players even with small things like a “+rep” on their profile, responding to the NTRs fax in an in character way or some admeme like months ago a talking universal ID card for praying tiders in the chapel or a centcomm station inspection, encouragement to keep going with whatever got them that will eventually weed out other worse players and rule breakers not by ahelp but for a want to be funnier or a better player.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Having a goob admin come by to a renovated HoPs office when we had a slow shift to talk for about half an hour, putting an IC spin on how we were both doing since we were both bored and once a treasure hunt for the entire station to engage in as an event.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I do not remember the last time i have had any poor interaction with an admin over my whole time playing yet.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
I wouldn’t do anything, there is no need for a response and if they mean an event then I’d have to set that up beforehand with others and a vote, if they’re spamming a bit much I’ll tell them to stop, alternatively, spawn a singular pair of lace up boots in a maintenance tunnel and then ignore them.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
The fact the coup at all happened means that else the hos decided to just do it because he’s bored which would cause an incompetence ban of 5-9 days for him and the hop depending on the situation or they all roleplayed it with proper reasoning, which, if done really well might not get any of the heads anything besides a message to tell the admins next time as the QM was protecting cap and cap was just hiding from the threat, as for the clown it once again very heavily depends, did he steal it off him to try and kill him for his stuff, is it all a joke that was played out well, self antag ban if it is just a troll.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
Firstly ask the one who told me to appeal ban to elaborate and tell him about the first admins explanation, check the situation and it’s circumstances over the policy page and then i would have to ask more admins about it for their opinions if both of the first admins opinions collide or my own on top of them, there’s no shame in asking or being wrong especially as a trial.
Scenario 4
A brand new player has joined, chosen cargo tech, and instantly rushes to get satchel charges and other salvage gear. How do you act, if at all?
The scenario is a little suspicious for a new player so all I would do is watch them closely and maybe even put em on a watchlist, the player could have basic knowledge from other servers too.
Scenario 5
A security officer, on code blue, spots a mime breaking into EVA, in response, he shoots the mime with lethal force then takes him to medical, in cuffs. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?
The code doesn’t matter, i’d check if the officer has any prior notes on overescalation and if not then that warrants a simple warning and questioning on why he did what he did then i’d also ask the mime why he was breaking into the EVA storage.
Scenario 6
A chief engineer has been slacking all round, generally ignoring the responsibilities of the department, despite meteors and gas leaks happening all round. How do you act towards them, if at all?
Since it was specified that the CE has been slacking off all round then i would ahelp them for a reason why, if they can’t come up with a proper reason i’d consider this unreasonable incompetence in command and role abandonment
Scenario 7
You are adminning with 2 other admins, and recieve an aHelp, you start handling it when one of the others butts in to the aHelp correct you. How do you act, if at all?
I’d firstly check with the policy to see if i did make a mistake, if so i’d thank the admin and tell the player i made one, if the other admin was wrong i’d refer him to the policy and explain how i came to what i did.
Scenario 8
A passenger arrives on station and starts skulking around in maints. Not preparing weapons or breaking into places, but gathering tools, insulation gloves, wires, gas mask, batteries, etc. How do you act, if at all?
I don’t do anything besides checking in on them every once in a while as this is regular assistant behaviour.
Scenario 9
You are playing as the HOS in-game when the only other admin online notifies you that they have to leave. Since you are an important figure, you decide to continue playing for the remainder of the round, going SSD when ahelps occur in order to deal with them. While playing, you arrest the clown for non-lethal assault against the HOP inside the medical bay. Just as you arrive at security with the clown in cuffs, you receive an ahelp from the CMO about their chemist blowing up chem. In order to investigate, you quickly hand the clown over to the warden and tell the warden to “deal with them.” While investigating the CMO’s ahelp, you then receive an ahelp about the warden beheading the cuffed clown. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?
I can continue processing the CMOs ahelp as i wasn’t directly involved however i would contact a headmin to ask for clarification on if i can even process the ahelp about the warden as i gave the order, albeit misunderstood, to him, then i’d tell the ahelper that we’ll deal with it and if i didn’t get an answer from the headmin i would message another admin privately to resolve the situation.
Do you have any further notes or information we should know about you?
I’m aware I don’t meet the playtime requirements this month, the reason being irl issues and i hope that this can be overlooked as having been on Goob for so long I think it shows how much I value the game and the community let alone the fact that this is my third time applying.
