Ban reason: Gave AA to a clown
Ban issue: The decision was not made randomly, and it paid off in keeping the station running. The fact they were a clown is irrelevant.
Events leading to the ban
On an extremely small (around 15 players as I recall) shift, I was forced into the role of acting captain by being the only command member aside from NTR. I made it clear I am inexperienced in the role, and do not want to have the role, but given the state of things I was forced to take it on anyway.
We had no engineering department and things were falling apart quickly. A clown was the only one who seemed to be trying to help, so I gave him AA.
The admin who noted me asked why I did, and I said that I “liked the clown’s swagger” before explaining that I trusted clown players to know more about the game than most, due to the fact they’re often a role taken on by very experienced players.
The gamble paid off, and the clown single handedly kept sci and several other departments powered.
Unfortunately it seems none of that mattered and my half joking remark about “liking his swagger” was all that was taken away from the exchange.
Reason the ban should be removed
I feel that even if I was wrong in giving a clown AA, a 12 day command ban is extremely harsh.
Futhermore I had good reason to trust the clown, and the decision was not a random one, it was because they were one of the only ones who seemed competent and willing/able to help with major issues the station was facing. The decision proved to be a good one, as mentioned above.
I should also note that I did also attempt to contact CC, both to help send someone to take over as captain, and to help with the power issues. We got no assistance with power, and I was told to simply promote someone else from the station.
I should also note that giving a clown AA is not a decision I would normally do, or one I did “just to be funny” or something. It was due to how horribly short staffed we were, and the fact I felt allowing them to go where the problem was would be the best way to keep the station from blacking out and us having to evac due to a lack of power, which is something that happened on two consecutive shifts prior to that one.
Despite my reservations about doing so due to there being no other “spawned in” command, I decided to do so because I know that I am not a good captain, and I very much did not want the role.
I asked NTR for advice and they suggested a promoted CMO who turned out to be a traitor.
In short, I made a decision to give AA to someone who displayed both a willingness and the knowledge to help the station, the decision paid off, and I passed off the role of acting captain as soon as I was able due to my recognition of my own shortcomings for the role.
