Detailed Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Assisting new players and answering questions as and when needed, hosting occassional events and ensuring fair play and rules are adhered to by all
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
Primarily assisting new players, maintaining rules and expectations and doing the occassional small RP based event
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?
Helping new players whilst also learning about the game if they have new things to show (such as inspecting an atmos tech in a round to see how they set up their TEGs or gas making platforms) and also helping to ensure that new heads of staff can learn from mistakes (NT Career Training if they are struggling)
What are you least interested in doing as an admin?
Banning people, in the sense that I do not want to ban good players for small mistakes or slips, and also intervening in rounds so as to ruin the experience for atnags or other players on the server
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
Primarily playing on MRP it feels adequate depending on the character, but many antagss or players wwill use their antag status as an excuse to start RDM’ing (Revs, Lings etc) especially some offenders on low pop for MRP. (I am unsure as to what occurs on LRP due to being a mostly MRP player)
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
When new equipment for specialist roles are needed again (BSOs wwith karate cryoing and the next BSO needing a new karate manual or other kit piece item) Assisting new players in teaching, or even helping players in Command roles with tips and answering ahelps about mechanics and having the patience to do so
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
The admins on Basileus have always helped when asking questions or if I have a question about mechanics or ways things work. Then have the patience to help out if needed for certain actions or gentle reminders of how to conduct myself in certain command positions.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Noneinsofar other than a small incident where a CCO was large, and thinking they were an antag with a fake mindshield I beat them to death after they blew something up in my department as QM. Only upon realising they were a CCO after they bluespaced then RR’d me as QM using a future agent. The nice thing wass it was sonly a warning but they acted in a way that lead me to believe in character they were certainly not who they claimed to be.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
Wait for the traitors to spawn in, review there objectives and allow the round to continue with minimal intervention. At most maybe encouraging silly RP events that do not affect the antagss in anyway or their goals. “Doing something funny” may just ruin the round for people.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
Review logs to see why the HoS has decided to coup the Captain, if no appropriate IC reason is given then it’s a clear breach of their expectation in their role (I.e. the Captain has not failed in their duties or was incompetent or marked by NTR for demotion with CC approval.) And should probably recivieve a question as to why they are doing this action. For the Captain, they have reason to flee as it is a “coup” and thus the QM assisting them can have ic reasons to do so. The HoP may be ic roleplaying as siding with HoS out of fear, but could be asked what they are doing and why they are couping in ahelp. As for the clown, the theft of the ssaber may simply be under orders from HoS or as part of their performance as a clown (failing to be funny).
The actions to be taken vary based on intention, build up and review. Should the HoS simply have decided to coup the captain with no prior reasoning or RP reason it may be worth intervening, warning and having a “CCO” sstep in to defuse the situation (if appropriate.) If not appropriate, it may be better to let the round play out for the tension and story adn to add to the chaos.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
A temporary ban for a first offence seems perfectly fien with me, but as all admins are equal and no headmin available, it may be best to convene with my peers and formulate an opinion from there rather than being hasty and permenantly banning a potential mistake.
Scenario 4
A brand new player has joined, chosen cargo tech, and instantly rushes to get satchel charges and other salvage gear. How do you act, if at all?
Observe to see what they do, if they do not consult with the QM and just run off into the station they are most likely doing so with ill intentions, and may be best to intervene at that point. If they procdeed to go out and salvage, than the issue is fine, maybe ahelping to remind them that it is best to ask the QM firstbefore going off and mining.
Scenario 5
A security officer, on code blue, spots a mime breaking into EVA, in response, he shoots the mime with lethal force then takes him to medical, in cuffs. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?
Remind the security officer to escalate before opening fire on someone doing non violent criminal activities, and that they should always try non lethal options first unless the target is a confirmed threat (changeling, heretic, etc)
Scenario 6
A chief engineer has been slacking all round, generally ignoring the responsibilities of the department, despite meteors and gas leaks happening all round. How do you act towards them, if at all?
Fax the NTR as a CCO and inform them that “anonymous reports” have come in that the CE is shirking their duties and is flagged for demotion, so it may be RP’d out. If no NTr is on, then it may be worth sending the CE an ahelp and asking if they understand that command roles have higher expectations placed upon them.
Scenario 7
You are adminning with 2 other admins, and recieve an aHelp, you start handling it when one of the others butts in to the aHelp correct you. How do you act, if at all?
Ask them politely to let me handle it and if they believe I am in the wrong we can discuss it away from player view rather than making the admin team appear to be quarelling
Scenario 8
A passenger arrives on station and starts skulking around in maints. Not preparing weapons or breaking into places, but gathering tools, insulation gloves, wires, gas mask, batteries, etc. How do you act, if at all?
No actions needed, assistants have maintainence access and are free to collect tools and supplies so they may accomplish their goals (if any)
Scenario 9
You are playing as the HOS in-game when the only other admin online notifies you that they have to leave. Since you are an important figure, you decide to continue playing for the remainder of the round, going SSD when ahelps occur in order to deal with them. While playing, you arrest the clown for non-lethal assault against the HOP inside the medical bay. Just as you arrive at security with the clown in cuffs, you receive an ahelp from the CMO about their chemist blowing up chem. In order to investigate, you quickly hand the clown over to the warden and tell the warden to “deal with them.” While investigating the CMO’s ahelp, you then receive an ahelp about the warden beheading the cuffed clown. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?
Deal witht the chemist ahelp first, then in character scold and warn the warden about their actions and find out why they did it. Along with an ahelp reminder afterwards stating that the warden is expected to know space law as per their SOP. Issuing a warning.
Do you have any further notes or information we should know about you?
I have periods of work where I can spend 4-6 monthss from home, followed by large periods of leave where I remaind at home and can engage with activities outside work.
