Ban reason: "NTR Incomp" - I am not writing out the entire fucking message - see discord image link
Length of ban: 2 days
Ban issue: I did what I was banned for, but the ban is unreasonably harsh.
Events leading to the ban
Killed moth used up 60 saved up NTR loyalty points (spent like an hour and then some to get them). First time i ever got to the amount, and that was before they removed all the fun stuff.
Moth, detective, and HoS in bridge, as i read out from the computer that their prints (and only their prints) were on the briefcase
Moth essentially admits to it, infront of said det and hos. Starts making a run for it. (security in a moment of brilliance decided to leave the bridge AFTER THE CULPRIT IS DETECTED AND LOCKED IN WITH THEM, and not even make sure the airlock is functional)
I start chasing the moth. security probably saw me disabler him. not sure if i specifically yelled at them/pointed at the moth to arrest the guy SINCE HE WAS RUNNING AWAY AND JUST ADMITTED TO THE CRIME. additionally we were 3-7 minutes into a evac call.
Moth keeps running away. After a few minutes gets cornered in maints but pulls a ring around the rosies with an object that blocks disabler bolts.
I (iirc) tell him to come with me or something like that, he refuses
I switch to the shitty cane sword to crit him, which i manage to do after even more bs evasive manuvers
In a moment of anger i keep hitting him since he put more than an hour of hard work down the drain for some stupid shit
(Note: I was planning to revive him after that, since in my mind his penance was served)
His head unexpectedly pops off.
After (iirc) dragging his body for a while i realize ill never make it in time with the body to someone who can fix this oopsie
I take the head to science to borg since shuttle is nearly there
Run into the two security who tell me they after fingerprint analysis, the same one i read the results out to them, they determined the moth was the fuck who did it.
I show them the head, they acknowledge it and give no negative comment towards it
I borg the head after struggling to find science, just in time for the shuttle to arrive.
(Do note that i told the moth guy he had it coming. he did. but that dosnt mean i INTENDED for the beheading)
Reason the ban should be removed
I am not denying that i went overboard (primarily accidentally with the beheading). in my opinion a note would be more than justified.
That being said, onwards to my defense.
First of all id like to point to the dead dog test. I was not acting as security in general, i was acting to avenge my very personal and in my eyes very severe grievance, which is especially relevant due to dumb and dumber who made up security.
I cited SOP, timers and spacelaw not to say i was acting in a capacity of security or the captain handing out a sentence, but to show that my reaction was not completely out of proportion. In fact the crimes committed would have been sufficient for a death sentence issued by the captain.
Again i was not intending to bring the guy to security for an arrest, and after he resist me for half the shuttle timer and i had to crit him i decided in a moment of anger to just rough him up real bad and then get him to medical attention to heal (/revive)
The beheading was ACCIDENTAL and i did my best to revive him afterwards, which after i realized was impossible i did the next best thing.
I do not think that the action constitutes a count of incompetence (see dead dog) but of over escalation, where the recommended first offense (which this is) punishment is a warning.
I also dont think that the “powergaming” (*) previous warning ought to be taken into account for said ban, but i can see how it may be less directly considered in the punishment, even if i heavily disagree.
Also id like to mention that
- Said ban and warning are for all intents and purposes the only ones i have with over 600 hours of playtime (there single other note was me accidentally hooking up plasma to distro and then (wrongly) thinking that eh might help the zeds after a lot of sleep deprevation)
- I waited until the ban was over before i even considered to appeal it, to show i took it to heart. I then took a decently long time to actually appeal it since yknow the ban was over.
(*:i really dont think that warning was appropriate in the form it was written, but i also realize that it looked a lot worse than it actually was, and with how replays are borked and that i wasnt expecting to be grilled 1:30 into the round, i really didnt think it worth it to appeal)
