Detailed Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

Game admins serve the purpose of ensuring that rules are being enforced on the server while also having a vested interest in making sure that the play space is remaining fun for everyone depending on how that particular round is going. Game admins also assist players with any matters they may have, mostly serving as mentors for anyone that might be new. Observing the round is key, and game admins serve an important purpose in making sound decisions on the context of the game as it goes.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I have been playing on Goob Station as my primary server for a very long time and I would like to help be a part of the staff team to continue its lifespan and keep it a player-friendly environment. I feel well-rounded in its culture and would be excited to take a more meaningful role within it.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?

I am primarily interested in making sure there are no egregious rule breaks happening and solving player issues as they come up. I am also very keen on assisting new players as a mentor when/if that need arises. Goob is daunting for new people, even for some SS14 veterans from other servers, and I would like to help people get adjusted to the server and our unique player culture.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?

Events and Too-Intrusive IC Admin Interventions.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

The LRP Server, as of late, has been a bit rambunctious and I think it could use some slight ironing out. While it is the “shitslop” server at times, which is part of its uniquity, I think at times on peak hours it can get a bit out of hand and feel less like SS14 and more like a DarkRP Shitpost server. While theres nothing wrong with this, I just feel that it is not befitting of a proper hectic LRP server.

I do not play on Basil

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

Being calm, friendly, and understanding in your ahelps with players really does have an immensely positive impact on players, even when you are performing administrative action that “negatively” impacts the person you are interacting with. Most times, not having a passive-aggressive or overall hostile attitudes towards players, including shitters, really does help make someone rethink their actions, as “hug boxxy” as it sounds.

This kind of attitude as an admin makes players understand their actions were not the best and may help them rethink future behavior. Roleplay, especially on Goob, is very chaotic and we can get lost in the thick of it. Keeping a cool head keeps everyone involved in a better attitude.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

I have had overall positive interactions with admins on both Goob and Funky. As mentioned in the previous question, most admin interactions that are within that scope make things feel better and keeps things in a player-to-player light, instead of a player-to-shitmin tone.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

I have not had any notable negative experiences with an admin before. I’m not interesting enough to mald at.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

Just say “@farts” in dead chat and go invis and simply ignore them. No need to jingle keys in front of their faces.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

I would first check with the Head of Security to see exactly why he is taking initiative to coup the captain. In this case, it just sounds like the HoS is overstepping authority and is trying to coup the captain for no real reason and take his place without a properly justified IC reason (such as Captain breaking space law or taking actions that endanger the station and crew as a whole.). The HoS, without proper reasoning for his actions, would be punished for incompetence in a command position and issued a roleban from command and security for a few days and reminded in the ahelp of his role and his duties.

The Head of Personnel would also be questioned on why he is helping the HoS. If his actions cannot be justified in a reasonable manner, he would be also be punished for incompetence as well as powergaming for overstepping his position as HoP to arm himself and take a personal role in couping the captain. Once again reminded in an ahelp that he is a paper pushing CUCK and should also be there to note that the HoS’s actions in this instance were NOT justified.

The Quartermaster has done nothing of note and will be left alone.

If the Captain is not making any attempts to retrieve his sword from the Clown, there would be no need to take any admin action on him. It is an IC issue that he should be dealing with, but if he does not feel a need to retrieve his saber or have security retrieve it for him, then that is a Him issue. He lost the sword and it is up to him to get it back.

The Clown would be mainly left alone depending on what his plans with captain’s saber would be. Clown is given some RP lee-way in doing mischievous actions, so long as they are not completely unwarranted and griefy in an unfunny obnoxious way. If the Clown had plans to give the Captain’s saber back or utilize it in a funny way to interact with Captain, there will be no issues and the RP will be left as is in an IC Issue. If the Clown, however, took the saber to behave in a shitter way (such as powergaming it to harass sec and harm them or valid hunt) he will be punished appropriately for power gaming.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

Dependent on the issue, I would rather look at the context of the circumstances involved and defer my action to the adminning policy to make my OWN decision regarding the matter instead of taking full on input from a fellow admin. While opinion is appreciated in adminning and at times deferring to game staff for help is good, it is also important to be self sufficient and take onus for making appropriate action, if any action is even needing to be taken.

Regarding the ping from another admin on Discord telling me to “indef” them, I would, again, consider the issue at hand. Politely tell that admin I value their opinion, but being that I am in game, I am investigating it, I have the facts as they are known to me, I will be making my own decision utilizing policy in conjunction with the issue at hand.

Scenario 4

A brand new player has joined, chosen cargo tech, and instantly rushes to get satchel charges and other salvage gear. How do you act, if at all?

Observe the player for time being and see what else he does. This is notably suspicious behavior, of course, but not entirely rule breaking in the moment. Being that Lavaland is now a public area, this is perfectly in line with what is allowed, in character, to be doing. But taking into consideration he is a brand new player and quite obviously well versed with the game, I would just watch and see if he attempts to grief the station, or just goes to Lavaland to Ubergame as a Salvager and never even interact with the station beyond depositing mats.

Scenario 5

A security officer, on code blue, spots a mime breaking into EVA, in response, he shoots the mime with lethal force then takes him to medical, in cuffs. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

If the Mime ahelps the overescalation, the security officer would be bwoinked and spoken to about why he resorted to using lethals instead of non-lethals on a non-violent non-threatening Mime in the moment. He would then be, if no other history is present on him, noted for the over-escalation and watch listed for overescalation as a security officer.

Mime would just be told the issue is handled.

Scenario 6

A chief engineer has been slacking all round, generally ignoring the responsibilities of the department, despite meteors and gas leaks happening all round. How do you act towards them, if at all?

Due to the CE being the penultimate authority figure for engineering, a polite reminder in ahelp that he has actual duties he must be tending to will be given. Just having any presence whatsoever as a command member is important, especially if he has new people he must be teaching, or more importantly actually ensuring engineering repairs are being done to the station. No other admin action necessary.

Scenario 7

You are adminning with 2 other admins, and recieve an aHelp, you start handling it when one of the others butts in to the aHelp correct you. How do you act, if at all?

If I believe i made no mistake, I would either ping that admin in the discord server in the staff chat about the issue and ask them to take any corrections or input on what I’m doing either there or in DMs. In the middle of an ahelp (if it was not in the ADMIN ONLY relay) is not constructive and takes the point of the conversation away from handling the issue and can derail it into an argument.

Slight corrections in ADMIN ONLY are fine, but any further input should happen in a better channel or view for further discussion on it.

Scenario 8

A passenger arrives on station and starts skulking around in maints. Not preparing weapons or breaking into places, but gathering tools, insulation gloves, wires, gas mask, batteries, etc. How do you act, if at all?

Simply observe the player for a little bit and if he is not seeming like a raider, ignore him to concern myself with other matters if they arise. They are not doing anything wrong in the moment beyond acting like a typical tider which is completely fine within the scope of the game.

Scenario 9

You are playing as the HOS in-game when the only other admin online notifies you that they have to leave. Since you are an important figure, you decide to continue playing for the remainder of the round, going SSD when ahelps occur in order to deal with them. While playing, you arrest the clown for non-lethal assault against the HOP inside the medical bay. Just as you arrive at security with the clown in cuffs, you receive an ahelp from the CMO about their chemist blowing up chem. In order to investigate, you quickly hand the clown over to the warden and tell the warden to “deal with them.” While investigating the CMO’s ahelp, you then receive an ahelp about the warden beheading the cuffed clown. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

To derail from the point of this question. I believe any reasonable admin, if it is SO PRESSING THAT THERE BE ONE THAT ROUND, would instead inform the Captain and their Warden they need to cryo, ensure their gear is turned into either their locker or their warden, and then cryo to readmin. IF AN ADMIN IS NEEDED THAT BADLY

In reference to the issue of having an ahelp about the warden beheading the clown, I would either see if another admin is available to momentarily handle the ahelp, as I cannot do any action for I am the HoS and thus involved with the situation being over the Warden ingame, and for arresting the clown in the first place. If no one is able to respond to the ahelp in game and the round ends, a watchlist on the warden for over escalation is reasonably the best course of action I can take.

Do you have any further notes or information we should know about you?
