Detailed Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

Game admins are supposed to watch the game and make sure no one is breaking any rules, occasionally messaging players to stop doing something, and if things get out of hand give proper punishment in accordance to the offense, another important thing is making sure people are having fun.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I play on GoobStation alot, specifically way later at night when the servers are generally dead from like 9pm-3am. During that time there’s significantly less admin presence and it has definitely impacted some of my games having no admins to respond if there’s an issue. I want to be able to fill in during those times without any admin even on lower pops.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?

My main interest would be in moderating games and watching them play out, occasionally getting involved in lore with other players is also something I’d like to do I’ve seen some admins participate in it, roleplaying as central command is something I’ve wanted to do for a while. Overall just making memorable shifts for players.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?

Hosting events, I just don’t think I’d do a good job at it admin intervention is especially something I want to avoid as well whenever possible, I feel like only in the most extreme cases should admin intervention be present.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

On MRP I have a great time playing, it’s the server I play on the most. The current state of things could definitely be improved on especially on LRP. I don’t play on LRP often if ever, I think I have a max of 10 hours on it but I’ve been wordlessly martial arts spammed or gunned down in a hall way a majority of the rounds I played on LRP, no build up, no words, just getting robusted.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

Answering ahelps, and following up on issues anyone mentions make a big impact. Encouraging certain player activities in moderation helps too keep the fun nature of goob in general.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

While I can’t name any particular instances I have seen Boggle around a lot and been in their events, there was this one instance where I was a headrev and couldn’t convert anyone and Boggle tried to help me but couldn’t find the source of the issue and gave me a antag token.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

I have not had any bad admin experiences

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

I might do something extremely minor like remove a players hat and wait for them to notice then put it back on or steal a persons cigarette in their mouth, that’s the max of what I’d do but I’d likely ignore the players.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

If there is no apparent reason for the coup of the Captain after messaging all three people then I would roleban the HOP and HOS for their behavior. Behaving like that in a command role is unacceptable, I generally see zero situation where a HOP and HOS would need to coup a Captain even in incompetence the rest of command must at the very least agree on how to act with the Captain.

For the captain if the cargo shuttle is undocked from the station I would warn them about leaving the station and potential rounds stalling, I would also ask more questions in general about what led up too the behavior of HOS and HOP. For the Quartermaster I would take no action besides telling them not to take the captain off station if they are piloting the shuttle.

For the clown it depends on the clowns actions, I would message the captain and clown first and find out how they got the saber. If the clown stole the saber in a hostile manner, critting the cap, sleeping the cap, etc then I would step in. If the clown stole the saber through other means such as the captain unsheathing their sword and being slipped with the clown running off I wouldn’t do anything unless the clown directly acts like an antagonist and is killing people or attacking the captain.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

I would not indefinitely ban the player. I would rather risk me being wrong about a temporary ban than me being wrong about something that would require an appeal.

Scenario 4

A brand new player has joined, chosen cargo tech, and instantly rushes to get satchel charges and other salvage gear. How do you act, if at all?

I would watch the play and not get involved until they try to do something with the satchels or salvagers gear, generally salvage shouldn’t be open to a cargo tech in the first place so I’d be concerned about salvagers leaving their gear out in the open, if the player who stole the satchels tries to blow something up then I would message them to stop, as they are self antagging at this point

Scenario 5

A security officer, on code blue, spots a mime breaking into EVA, in response, he shoots the mime with lethal force then takes him to medical, in cuffs. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

Find out more about the situation in general, message the mime get their side of the story, message the second get their side of the story, in this case I would ban the secoff temporarily for not following SOP.

Scenario 6

A chief engineer has been slacking all round, generally ignoring the responsibilities of the department, despite meteors and gas leaks happening all round. How do you act towards them, if at all?

Tell the CE to get to work or to cryo if they don’t feel like working, especially if there’s no power or things get so bad the station goes on yellow. If they don’t do either then I would first hold a vote asking players if they want me to fix the issues the CE is neglecting.

Scenario 7

You are adminning with 2 other admins, and recieve an aHelp, you start handling it when one of the others butts in to the aHelp correct you. How do you act, if at all?

I would thank them for correcting me if I got something wrong and use their advice accordingly, if I don’t see that I did anything wrong then I would talk with the admin and try and figure out what I did.

Scenario 8

A passenger arrives on station and starts skulking around in maints. Not preparing weapons or breaking into places, but gathering tools, insulation gloves, wires, gas mask, batteries, etc. How do you act, if at all?

I would occasionally watch the player and what they’re doing. It just sounds like a normal tider that I wouldn’t need to step in as long as they aren’t self antagging.

Scenario 9

You are playing as the HOS in-game when the only other admin online notifies you that they have to leave. Since you are an important figure, you decide to continue playing for the remainder of the round, going SSD when ahelps occur in order to deal with them. While playing, you arrest the clown for non-lethal assault against the HOP inside the medical bay. Just as you arrive at security with the clown in cuffs, you receive an ahelp from the CMO about their chemist blowing up chem. In order to investigate, you quickly hand the clown over to the warden and tell the warden to “deal with them.” While investigating the CMO’s ahelp, you then receive an ahelp about the warden beheading the cuffed clown. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

After I deal with the chemist and come back to the beheaded clown I would first fire the warden on the spot for not following space law and execute someone over a minor crime. After that I would roleban the warden, and ask the clown if they want to be revived.

Do you have any further notes or information we should know about you?

Not that I can think of, thank you for reading this.
