Detailed Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Mediators between players and each other, players and the round, players and the rules. They keep people civil with each other, fix any major issues a round may have, and ensure people are properly following the rules. Disciplinary action results from this if necessary.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I like the game and I like the culture here. The people seem good. There aren’t always admins on though and I can tell that the ones that are online when I am are usually either spread too thin or just don’t ever get to play. I want to believe I can make a positive impact on the player experience and on the admins that already exist.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?
Answering ahelps, fixing small problems if they crop up (like lings losing abilities on shapeshift), and curbing rule-breaking behavior. Teaching players various job-related activities as needed.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin?
Turning my time on Goob from being 100% gameplay to 100% adminning. Preferably I’d be able to do both in equal share. I still want to play the game after all.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I mostly play whatever LRP server is highest pop. Until recently I’d say it was drifting NRP. Now after seeing some other servers, I’d say it’s about where it needs to be at LRP. It fluctuates over time, as I’ve seen.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Honestly, just having and encouraging fun is enough. Helping new players or just people with questions understand things so they can get more immersed in the game.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Admins setting up goofy events. Giving positive rulings or fixing bugs that would interrupt my/others’ rounds.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I remember getting bwoinked in the middle of some fun RP in another server that I couldn’t do xyz despite it genuinely just being a fun little interaction between me and some other people. I think getting in the way of others when nobody is getting hurt by it is the most disruptive thing you can do.
Putting your hands on the wheel should be a last resort. I’d prefer to keep a hands-off approach unless it’s egregious.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
Tell them No
Rename a random mouse “funny mouse”
Place a plushie in a public hallway
Any of these would suffice
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
First reach out to the relevant parties. Did the Captain do something so egregious this is warranted, or is the HOS acting out of self interest? If HOS has to petition HOP for help, I would assume the security department isn’t following HOS because they don’t have a good reason. If sec IS following HOS, then HOP has no need to be a part of this directly. Were any faxes sent by any heads of staff, or better yet the NTR? Depending on the results, I’d likely send ERT to assist or detain the HOS/HOP based on if they were justified.
Then, Captain should not be off-station. I think QM is probably clean in this scenario. Clown has the right to goof off as long as they aren’t trying to physically attack anyone with the sword and are willing to give it up upon request.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I’ll agree with the admin contacting me since they’re the one working with me directly, though I will bring up the prior ruling and ask questions about the scenario so I can handle it better in the future.
Scenario 4
A brand new player has joined, chosen cargo tech, and instantly rushes to get satchel charges and other salvage gear. How do you act, if at all?
I’ll watch the player to see if they’re going to LL or staying on-station. Unless I see or suspect foul play I’ll likely just keep hands-off.
Scenario 5
A security officer, on code blue, spots a mime breaking into EVA, in response, he shoots the mime with lethal force then takes him to medical, in cuffs. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?
No action needed if no ahelps received. Might reach out to the secoff to try verbal warnings first or to try nonlethals. At least he took the mime to medical, but usually they would go to the brigmedic.
Scenario 6
A chief engineer has been slacking all round, generally ignoring the responsibilities of the department, despite meteors and gas leaks happening all round. How do you act towards them, if at all?
If their department has been handling the situations in their stead then no action needed. If the station problems are piling up and people are reporting them without the CE looking into it, I’d still assume it’s an IC issue for the Captain to look into their incompetence.
Scenario 7
You are adminning with 2 other admins, and recieve an aHelp, you start handling it when one of the others butts in to the aHelp correct you. How do you act, if at all?
Reach out to them on discord or some other method - just not the ahelp. Figure out which of us is correct and go from there.
Scenario 8
A passenger arrives on station and starts skulking around in maints. Not preparing weapons or breaking into places, but gathering tools, insulation gloves, wires, gas mask, batteries, etc. How do you act, if at all?
This is tider activity. No action needed.
Scenario 9
You are playing as the HOS in-game when the only other admin online notifies you that they have to leave. Since you are an important figure, you decide to continue playing for the remainder of the round, going SSD when ahelps occur in order to deal with them. While playing, you arrest the clown for non-lethal assault against the HOP inside the medical bay. Just as you arrive at security with the clown in cuffs, you receive an ahelp from the CMO about their chemist blowing up chem. In order to investigate, you quickly hand the clown over to the warden and tell the warden to “deal with them.” While investigating the CMO’s ahelp, you then receive an ahelp about the warden beheading the cuffed clown. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?
Reach out to whoever blew up chem/check logs for what happened and determine if it was an accident, then relay to the CMO it’s been handled. The Warden murdering the clown can be handled IC as we have a medical area for the clown, and Ward can be arrested for murder. I don’t think admins are allowed to do admin work on matters they are directly involved in or I might reach out in admin capacity to tell the warden not to DNR people without express Captain permission.
Do you have any further notes or information we should know about you?
It’s Mr Mori, not Keki.
