Detailed Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

From my experience and personal opinion, I believe admins are there to help players with questions about gameplay, items, rules, as well as set up events or fun things for players to make the experience more special. Moderation is also a part of this, seeing as they are responsible for keeping the servers a nice place for everyone.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

In my opinion and based on my observations, I don’t feel like there are a lot of admins on MRP. Sure, there are a few every day, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than probably 2 admins at the same time or very rarely seeing a third. I’m not going to name any names, but there’s like 2 consistent admins I see online every day.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?

Primarily, I’m interested in doing events to make the game feel more lively. A large portion of my like for the game has come from events and simply RP on the station. Goob as itself isn’t a great place for RP, if we’re being honest, but I only play MRP. But those few moments on the station of RP makes it all so worth it. So, I do those moments are the kind of thing I want to provide for people.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?

If I’m being honest, it would be moderating on the LRP or NRP servers. I personally only play MRP, and, from what I’ve heard, the servers are completely different, almost like it were different communities. So, that’s one of the things I’m more hesitant about.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

This entirely is based on my experience with MRP. I would say it’s very touch and go. There are people who will RP, yes, but more than half of the time it feels like I’m playing an LRP server. Again, I’m not going to name anyone, but I do know some consistent people that play like that. I don’t think RP on MRP is very prevalent unless you’ve either had previous interactions that lasted more than a few seconds, or there was an admin event involved. And, of course, if they actually wanted to RP or not.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

Events. If done correctly, there’s nothing better than an amazing admin event that’s fun for everyone. Keep rare things rare, and they’ll be an even bigger treat in the future. This is what I believe is the biggest thing for positive impact.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

I’ve had and still have many good experiences with the game and admins. A lot of the time, it just takes a little RP to make something awesome. From what I’ve learned, a lot of the admins on MRP do want to RP, or at least appreciate it a lot more as they also have their fun. But, for instance today I was playing HOP and apparently there was some mass hallucination event happening and someone was sending me messages in my mind. There’s a lot of lore behind it I won’t explain here but basically it was a lot of mental torture about my character and stuff like that, and I thought it was super cool and started a whole other thing I’m going to do with her now.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

It’s rare, but it does happen. With game admins specifically? No. With the game? Yes. It had to do with a round where I was BSO, low pop, and a heretic killed RD. I killed the heretic, and later he tokened lone op and came back and killed me. He was basically just using meta shit just to kill most of the station because he was mad. It was, in my opinion, odd behavior and he wasn’t exactly RPing either. I mean, I understand not RPing as an antag, fair enough, but he wasn’t even trying to stay in character in the slightest.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

I think it’s pretty simply. I would either ignore them or perhaps consider it. But I wouldn’t do anything without a poll first to see what the server wants. If the server is fine with me doing something, them maybe I’ll do something minor, just a funny admeme or something, or something similar. Nothing major.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

If I’m being honest, I have absolutely no experience with LRP as I don’t play on it. But, if the HOS has a reason to do the coup and it’s not just because it’s “funny” or something like that, then it would be fine. I would question the clown as to why he took the saber, and perhaps leave a note if he doesn’t have a good reason.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

Unless I feel like they have a better judgement than me, I most likely would trust my own judgement. I would consider it and see if they have a reason for that kind of punishment, but other than that I would most likely follow my own judgement based on what I was previously told. It’s a weird thing, but in the end I could always look at the rule book.

Scenario 4

A brand new player has joined, chosen cargo tech, and instantly rushes to get satchel charges and other salvage gear. How do you act, if at all?

I would watch them closely to see if they do something stupid with that stuff. If they have an actual reason to and don’t misbehave for the rest of the round or are some sort of antag with a plan for their goals, I wouldn’t do anything. But, if they do some stupid stuff with it, I would dish out a punishment fitting whatever they did accordingly.

Scenario 5

A security officer, on code blue, spots a mime breaking into EVA, in response, he shoots the mime with lethal force then takes him to medical, in cuffs. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

I would immediately ask the security officer why he did that, and most likely will give him some sort of warning if he didn’t have a good reason to do that. I don’t believe I need to ask the mime why they were breaking into EVA. While yes it is against in-game rules, I don’t believe that would be considered self antag or anything against the server rules.

Scenario 6

A chief engineer has been slacking all round, generally ignoring the responsibilities of the department, despite meteors and gas leaks happening all round. How do you act towards them, if at all?

Based on what I observe, if it’s complete negligence for absolutely no reason, I would maybe have a little chat with them and probably give them a role ban or something similar, but I would most likely talk to them first to find out the context behind it all.

Scenario 7

You are adminning with 2 other admins, and recieve an aHelp, you start handling it when one of the others butts in to the aHelp correct you. How do you act, if at all?

I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all. If they correct me, I would verify and thank them or correct them if they were wrong. There’s no reason to do anything if they’re trying to be helpful.

Scenario 8

A passenger arrives on station and starts skulking around in maints. Not preparing weapons or breaking into places, but gathering tools, insulation gloves, wires, gas mask, batteries, etc. How do you act, if at all?

I wouldn’t act at all. This is pretty common, and there’s nothing server wise they are doing wrong.

Scenario 9

You are playing as the HOS in-game when the only other admin online notifies you that they have to leave. Since you are an important figure, you decide to continue playing for the remainder of the round, going SSD when ahelps occur in order to deal with them. While playing, you arrest the clown for non-lethal assault against the HOP inside the medical bay. Just as you arrive at security with the clown in cuffs, you receive an ahelp from the CMO about their chemist blowing up chem. In order to investigate, you quickly hand the clown over to the warden and tell the warden to “deal with them.” While investigating the CMO’s ahelp, you then receive an ahelp about the warden beheading the cuffed clown. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

First and foremost, I would immediately ask the warden for context and look at logs for a reason why they would ever do that. Especially without captain approval. More likely than not, I would probably hit the warden with whatever punishment fits that, be it a role ban or whatever it may be. Then, in game, most likely demote them and get them out of security immediately.

Do you have any further notes or information we should know about you?

I’m still a student in highschool, on my last semester before graduation, so my time online may change.
