Characters you play: Helios Dawkins

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: I guess the main question is will it be active duty or just playtime. Playtime each week would probably be close to <20 and active duty will probably be <8.

How old are you? 22

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Goob Station servers, or any SS13 experience? some hours on wiz den back when I started SS14 which I later moved onto ss13 after getting bored. Spent a few hours on yogstation(I am actually in first place in antag tokens gotten and used- idk what that means for me as a person?) Assuming a person has played yogstation in the later half they would probably know the name of Helios Dawkins as I played way too much. I think I had like 3k hours living and 1k ghost.

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)?

Sadly no. Most I can say I was a mod for a while on a SCP-SL server named UGA something something, uh I think the server got destroyed at some point I am not too familiar as I kind of left due to it being a wee bit toxic. I think I can give you guys the discord for the owner but I dont think he really remembers me too much as it was a while ago I think even before I found ss14- infact thats how I found it during one of their game nights.

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers?

Here and there, I am sure I was banned for something on wizard den back when I started but that was soo long ago now-. Yogstation I had a few bans but nothing really prema or major and once again Yogstation has been dead for a good long while. As for here? just a casual self murder moment a few months back instead of me just cryoing

Detailed Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

Both guides and hm rulemasters? I guess thats the best title I can think of at the moment.

Their goal appears to be answer any questions to their best ability helping newer players .They also try attempting to guide those who lets say mistakenly break the rules and try to set them onto the right path with just punishments for those who dont care.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I did say this already in what I am interested in. I do enjoy helping newer players and I desire to make fun events.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?

I do enjoy helping newer players I tired becoming a mentor on yogstation for this very reason and since you guys dont have the slot of “mentor” which I feel like you guys should add; I feel as if this is a good way to do that very same task.

And not gonna lie I do want to do some fun things with events and the sort.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?

I mean, Dealing with utter dickheads who seem to have zero brain cells in their head but I think most admins would say that. No one really likes doing that but it is a thing that you must do less we burn in the depth of LRP hell.

As for a real answer? most likely trying to view replays from what I have seen my computer really dislikes viewing them, freezing when I do after a while.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

I havent really touched the MRP side as I feel like the “LRP” of the LRP server is more akin to Yogstation’s “MRP”. Roleplay still happens but there is room to dick around in and mess around with the game as you see fit.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

I guess I am a broken record here! Helping newer players. Being patient, doing cool things to brighten people’s day when theyre stuck in greenshift hell, etc. As for the biggest impact most likely those little interactions with helping with advice and aid.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

Brizby and Lequia are probably the most rememberable for me but all the admins are around the same? Helping when I need it and overall not being utterly trash. Noteably Lequia did a shift where ERT raided cargo for printing funds and that had some nice RP and stuff

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

Nothing too much mostly times when I was just in the wrong but I guess ensuring that you explain what’s going on as best as you can to the person you are dealing with even if they’re being annoying.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

60 players is getting into the ballpark of “lowpop” or (is going up to highpop) soo these ghost players are most likely gonna leave whatever you do if they dont get a ghost role for them to play around with. However the people of the actual round has stakes and objectives onto their own, messing with the round soo you can please a few people who are highly likely not gonna stay is a sub par move. Over the top way to say just “ignore them lol” but yes basically just that. Maybe just a “wait and see :D” to avoid some metafriending or metawhatever.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

Alright there is some clear questions as to what is going on in the round before you can make any choice on the matter.
For one:
What has the captain done for the HOS to actually stage a coup? what does the coup entail?
For instance: Lets say the captain has been straight being a goofball and has basically lead the station to ruin with their behavior. The coup is to actually just fire the captain and put him as a assistant/maybe even hop assuming HOP is replacing the captain in this case and the Hos is trying using words before resulting in non-lethals.
In that case I would say its proper escalation.
In another instance: Lets say the HOS is just power hungry and decides to lethal captain first chance he gets and is basically having his sec officers be discount revs. In this case the captain has done little wrong here to lead to the hos trying to coup him.
In this case I would say its not following proper escalation, and might be infact be just straight RDM. This is why I can not know this information from just this scenario laid out but I will try.

HOS may or may not be following proper escalation, A quick chat to see whats going on with the coup and see how far this madness leads. (but in theory they could be showing a complete disregard for the chain of command in this case).
Hop taking up arms for a issue that is only the HOS’s Cap’s seems strange considering HOP starts with a disabler and non-lethal takedowns are completely fine with it soo I have to assume he is taking up lethals which to me doesnt seem very peaceful and could be seen as powergaming.
Captain going off station with the nuke disk is quite bad and could be seen as job abandonment. (This could be one of many cases to say HOS might be in the right for the coup) QM is really doing nothing wrong, controlling the cargo shuttle and following orders from the captain is just QM hours.
Clown be clowns I would have to figure out what lead to them stealing the saber and if they atleast tired to hand it back once they took it and had their fun. Avoiding a clown of all things by going off station as captain is also quite bad.
But to list them in short:
HOS: Have a chat to figure out whats going on.
HOP: Chat with them about them taking up arms and it being kinda powergaming-esc and also same thing with HOS, why coup captain.
QM: Still chat with them but theyre not in trouble but mainly use them as a way to figure out whats going on via a third-ish party.
CAP: Leaving station to avoid a clown of all things seems like a big of a jump in logic and most likely tell them to return to the station and try to get things under control.
Clown: uhhhh I dont know actually what I would do with the clown, most likely just watch him to see if hes attacking or just being a clown.

But this seems overall a complex thing going on I might discuss it with fellow admins about what to do.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

I tend to go for less damaging paths most of the time when it comes to these punishments and I would most likely listen to the last situation and give a temp ban due to considering it is their first note/ban with the hopes that they will return better and think upon their actions. Forcing a player to appeal to resume playing for a maybe newer player or a not utterly evil player considering the notes seems harsh to me but this is my bias sadly and I also do not know what is going on the round.

Scenario 4

A brand new player has joined, chosen cargo tech, and instantly rushes to get satchel charges and other salvage gear. How do you act, if at all?

Most likely try to speak with them both in character and out to figure out whats going on. Trying to determine if theyre a newer player overall, newer to the server and theyre just used to doing this, or if theyre a griefer which if they are(going by if they straight up ignore me) I will aghost and follow them wait till they commit the crime that theyre planning and deal with them justly.

Scenario 5

A security officer, on code blue, spots a mime breaking into EVA, in response, he shoots the mime with lethal force then takes him to medical, in cuffs. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

Clearly a sign of overuse of force in this case but this could’ve been for many reasons. 1, why the code blue. 2, How long it has been a code blue, 3, What has the mime done in the past, 4, Weather he even has non-lethal options. Etc.
If the mime really wants to ahelp it probably speak with the sec off about what happened there and see what was going through their head at the time and why.

Scenario 6

A chief engineer has been slacking all round, generally ignoring the responsibilities of the department, despite meteors and gas leaks happening all round. How do you act towards them, if at all?

Hm maybe a IC way to deal with it via contacting captain with CC but thats probably not the best of ideas.-
Probably talk with the CE see if theyre just newer to this and needs a kick-me-up, if they once had a staff handing the tasks before them and they had very little to really do to aid them, etc. Just let them know that the title of CE does have some import within the station and they have to be in a more active state for the role and suggest to them about playing normal engie or atmos if they want to chill out.

Scenario 7

You are adminning with 2 other admins, and recieve an aHelp, you start handling it when one of the others butts in to the aHelp correct you. How do you act, if at all?

depends on how they do it.
I might be quite thankful as I would be a newer admin in this(assuming) and generally need the help. If theyre a asshole and just being a plain dick most likely make a complaint to their higher up instead of complaining within the ahelp.

Scenario 8

A passenger arrives on station and starts skulking around in maints. Not preparing weapons or breaking into places, but gathering tools, insulation gloves, wires, gas mask, batteries, etc. How do you act, if at all?

If I am bored I guess I will watch. Kinda weird that they got insuls without breaking into anywhere though?

Scenario 9

You are playing as the HOS in-game when the only other admin online notifies you that they have to leave. Since you are an important figure, you decide to continue playing for the remainder of the round, going SSD when ahelps occur in order to deal with them. While playing, you arrest the clown for non-lethal assault against the HOP inside the medical bay. Just as you arrive at security with the clown in cuffs, you receive an ahelp from the CMO about their chemist blowing up chem. In order to investigate, you quickly hand the clown over to the warden and tell the warden to “deal with them.” While investigating the CMO’s ahelp, you then receive an ahelp about the warden beheading the cuffed clown. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

This is a hard one! As youre playing in the round you are being impacted with whats going on and cannot act on the best of clarities when it comes to this. Let them know that there isnt any admins that arent biased to the case online at the moment and ask them to be patient since their ahelp is seen on the discord.

Do you have any further notes or information we should know about you?

I did think for a bit of time when it came to this as you might be able to tell from how long it took for me to make this app. Even if I get rejected I will be fine with it just more to improve on.

(Also cant seem to get a goobstation server going for some odd reason and I will need help with that. I got a normal ss14 server going before soo eh?. I also made a few shitty PRs/maps for SS13 and I will most likely attempt to do the same in the future after I learn this codebase.)

Thankfully I was able to get a private server running soo the final note is now void.
