Noting / Banning Admin: appenzaller

Length of ban: Note, presuming infinte time

Ban reason: Note message: "Overescalation | 1st | #27536 | As HoS, hunted and killed an engineer because there was a singuloose, and AI told them engi attacked a borg."

Ban issue: I did what I was banned/noted for, but the ban is unreasonably harsh.

Events leading to the ban

This note was from a while ago, so I apologize if anything here is 100% round accurate.
This was 30 minutes into a skeleton shift of 40 people, and engineering was mostly staffed by TAs. For some reason unbeknownst to me, the engineering team wanted to make a singularity instead of a tesla, against the will of the AI and common sense. According to the radio logs of this round, the engineering team also went out of their way to attack a cyborg that was going to go setup tesla. Alongside this, there were concerning comments about “intentionally loosing” coming from the engineers.
Shortly afterwards, the singularity was confirmed to be loosed, and so I began work.

My thought process went as such: these TAs wished to make a (then inferior and more unwieldly) engine against the will of the more veteran AI/crewmembers.
They went out of their way to build said engine, and alongside the concerning comments, managed to loose the singularity. This is an act of mass sabotage, and the radio messages could escalate this to terrorism.
Within space law, the similarly dangerous Supermatter engine had a clause putting engineers to death upon recontainment of delamination.
The captain of the shift had been (half-jokingly) shouting for the death of the engineering team, but under this thought process of mine, I decided to take their radio messages about this seriously, and ordered a kill-on-sight on all engineers.

According to records I had written, I also put out a DNR on the engineers, which I do concede went too far in that regard; alongside a lack of medical staff, there was also a cadet mis-identifying the captain in an engineering hardsuit as an engineer, proceeding to shoot them down and refusing to believe the rest of us when we said they were the captain, citing that “they were just doing their job”. The blame inevitably still falls on me.

Reason the ban should be removed

I believe that, following my reasoning, escalation clauses and round context, this note was placed too harshly and should be removed. While I admit I was not fully valid in my final decision, I believe a note is undeserved.

I would also like to address the fact that the noting administrator was a trialmin during this round.
