Ban reason: Insulted Soft-Paws-Mia, the player not the character, beyond what is acceptable in this community, continued insulting mia both in and out of the game discord, egged on conflict with multiple players.
Ban issue: I did what I was banned/noted for, but the ban is unreasonably harsh.
Events leading to the ban
This applies to the appeal and events. SOME THINGS MIGHT BE WRONG IN HERE. I’m sorry if I messed anything up in here. I couldn’t pull up the replay, and this was over the course of an entire round.
Just as a little context, I’ve felt like Mia has been really rude to me ever since we had a round where she began fighting security over rats, as the captain. During that round, I originally attempted to stun her and question her over what happened, but she went on to try to kill me, plus the officer she was chasing. It ended with us fighting her. I wasn’t there for the ending because I died. The rudeness felt targeted because before this, Mia and I were really chill with each other. We shared a lot of rounds where I was the BSO, and she was the NTR. During them, we got along well, and she was rarely ever rude to me. Which is why it was weird for her to be acting mean.
Starting from where I was at the HOPs line waiting to get sci and medical access, a lizard shoved me in line, and I told them something along the lines of quit it and I hit them once with my staff (2 brute damage). They shoved me again, so I stam crit them with my staff (24 brute damage). The CMO walked up and said, " You’re not getting med access", and “you’re banned from coming into medical.” After that, the RD gave me sci access, the paper I gave them said my reason was straight up just “anoms.” I wasn’t trying to hide what I was doing or be inconspicuous about it. I asked who was doing anoms on comms, but nobody responded. In science, Mori made two anomalies using an artifact. I asked Mia if I could get rid of the meat anom (for its core), but they said no. I joked with them a bit about it, but I don’t think they thought it was funny. Because when I told them I was gonna spawn more anoms, they started flipping out. Mori threw me 5 plasma during this, which I used to spawn an anom. Mia began screaming at me over comms about how I was gonna “Make it crit” and some other things. They tried to get security to arrest me, but security didn’t do anything. Around this point, we started arguing over comms. I called her a chud and a midget several times, she kept calling me a moron for creating an anom. Then I brought up the captain round, which ended up ticking off Mia a lot. Speed forward a bit, Mia or Mori breaks the anom generator plus both anom cores, which nobody ever confirmed who did it, so I assumed it was Mia. I went over to Mia, stunned her with my baton (22 brute damage), then cuffed her to get the anom cores I thought she had on her. Security tried to stun me, but couldn’t aim at all. Then I threw myself into dispos. In dispos, Mia came after me, attempting to crit me. I crit her instead, then left maints. Didn’t feel like bringing her to med at this point, so I just said on comms that Mia was crit in maints, later said it was west of sci because I realized nobody was going to get her. Speed forward a LOT, I’m in medical (can’t remember why), and Mia takes the 4 bluespace anom cores spinning around me. I chase her, but can’t reach her, yet. A doctor opens the doors to where she went, and she’s having surgery with Aporo operating in one of the little rooms. I told Aporo to open the door because she stole from me, and he says, “Shut up, motherfucker.” (I hadn’t spoken to him once this round.) When he runs around, I stam crit him (22 damage). He gets up and starts fighting me. The CMO also comes in and starts fighting me, too. I stam crit them both, then attempt to get away through dispos because I wasn’t trying to get executed by security for critting the CMO. Then MORI shows up and starts fighting me, too. I get killed in medical, and then RRed via biomass.
After this, I say on Discord that Mia hates me now because I rebelled against her once, Mia then pings me on Discord, talking about the current round and how I’m being a weirdo. I argue with her a bit before we both get muted. Nothing much after that.
Reason the ban should be removed
Starting with Mia, I admit I was a bit rude to her, and I shouldn’t have brought up a past round. However, what ticked me off was that she was suddenly being so mean to me when we had a relatively good relationship beforehand. Maybe she’s just super mean in other roles, but when we played together as NTR and BSO, she was really cool to hang out with. After the round and the brief discord interaction, I felt bad about the captain round plus everything else that happened between then, and apologized to her.
Now going through the ban reason, I did not insult Mia directly IC. My mentioning a previous round was a little chuddery, but I did it in a way that was IC (not saying it wasn’t wrong still). The reason I call her a midget is that her character is super small, so it’s also still an IC thing. The ONLY insult I threw at her directly was calling her a chud. Chud isn’t a super derogatory term, and it’s a little silly imo. It’s like being called an ass.
As for in-game insults, I mean, she was being a bit of a dingus over the radio. I told her repeatedly I was going to handle the anom when it spawned, and that I was gonna go get more plasma for myself to do anoms.
OOC, I don’t think I mentioned her at all. I just said, “Getting murdered and RRed for doing nothing was fun.” Then the 3 goons who did it to me started chudding out. Mia also got angry over it, but I wasn’t there when they RRed me, if you check the round, I was sitting in space while I was going to get water. So maybe she was involved. I don’t remember much of the OOC conversation, but I probably said something about her, which I admit was bad of me.
And for egging on other players, felt kind of the opposite from my POV. Mia, yeah, but we had been arguing all around. What set me off was her destroying the anom machine, plus the other two anoms. I still don’t know who did it, by the way. I remember Mori saying they did, but it felt sarcastic. I only stam crit her and checked her bag for the anom cores, thinking she had destroyed them too out of spite. I also called security beforehand, but they ended up turning on me. She then went off and tried to murder me in maints over all this, I guess it makes sense? We had been arguing for about an hour at that point, so the cuff situation was the breaking point.
Aporo, on the other hand, said to me, “Shut up, motherfucker.” If someone calls you a mother fucker for no reason, it’s not a really nice thing. Sometimes you gotta “stand on business,” which is what I did by stamina critting him (22 brute damage). I don’t know how this counts as egging on the CMO to beat me to death, considering I didn’t do very much to them at all that round, and they can see Aporo is fine. They probably thought I was trying to crit them, but I remember attempting to walk away, so it might have been a misunderstanding, maybe due to the door blocking their view. Mori is the only person who makes sense here. They saw me attacking the CMO.
All in all, not a really fun situation to be in. Me personally, I just want the ban reduced to a 24-hour ban because I’m on spring break right now and I’m trying to play SS14 all break. I admit I could have handled a handful of these situations a bit better, and I did crash out a bit on Mia.
But I don’t know where “I was a super terrible person to other crewmates” and “insulting Mia directly” came from, though. I was really nice to many of the players in that round, INCLUDING MORI, at least to my knowledge. I think the main issue with this round and with me was that I should have just let it go. I do think Mia is a super cool player, which is why it sucked to be treated so poorly by her across several rounds. She did say it wasn’t targeted, so I might have just been fabricating a situation. I did try to make amends with her after all this.
