Detailed Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

I continue to think the main purpose of administrators are mediators between game and player monitoring and moderating interactions between the two. Administrators are communicators with the community of what is acceptable or not and it is our responsibility to adapt to the communities needs.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I am interested in having a deeper connection with the team and game again as well as be able to assist as needed. I also wish to connect with the community and host game nights again.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?

I am primarily interested in the round to round handling with general Ahelps, Antag tokens, and reviewing rounds.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?

I don’t particularly want to get back into the paper work but its a necessary evil and I will be glad to continue to work on it.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

As for LRP can naturally drift toward frequent combat if the there isn’t content to counterbalance it. While roleplay still exists in LRP it often requires us to actively create it or seek it out rather than expecting it to arise organically. As for MRP, It feels closer to LRP, and At times it ends up feeling closer to Chatroom with layered gameplay on top. However it has gotten significantly better as time passes.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

Generally talking it out and interacting with players as well as teaching newer players how to play.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

Plenty of experiences with current and past Administrators on the team. Off the top of my head would be the 2024 December Events that included the entire team at the time.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

Yes, I would give more time and effort into allowing issues to have the time they need to be resolved instead of trying to resolve them as soon as possible. To look for a better or best solution than one that works quickly.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

I would continue to do my duties and explain to the players that I cannot interfere with the round.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

For this scenario there are multiple way for this to play out it, so I am using the following interpretation as the point of view I am describing. “The HoS and HoP have Ahelped for permission to coup the captain and were granted permission. The Captain was incompetent in their role.”

For the HoS, in the case they have asked and received permission all they have to do is make sure they follow Escalation guidelines and not to overstep their boundaries.

For the HoP, in the case they have also asked and received permission they would also follow the escalation guidelines however they would need to leave the arresting and processing of the captain to the Head of Security. Potentially the HoP’s responsibility to inform the rest of the Heads of the issue.

For the Captain leaving the station is against the rules other than for EVAC purposes, The captain having displayed incompetence may warrant a Ahelp and a warning/ban depending on context.

For the QM, they were acting in the best interest of the station acting leader, however taking the cargo shuttle for extended periods of time not contributing to the station is a issue should the scenario go past a certain time frame. The QM may be seen as incompetent should they take too much time.

For the Clown, depending on the clowns intentions and actions the theft of the sword could be seen as powergaming should they use the weapon. If the clown uses the weapon, it becomes a rule break. If the Clown simply possesses it, it would be a in game consequence for security to handle.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

I would follow the standard set by the banning policy if applicable, otherwise I would use the evidence/report from the admin that had told me of the situation and include that in the notes. I would thank the other admin for their input and decide against using it.

Scenario 4

A brand new player has joined, chosen cargo tech, and instantly rushes to get satchel charges and other salvage gear. How do you act, if at all?

I would continue to monitor the player to see what they are up to, they are likely power gaming items if they are brand new to the server and exhibiting this behavior. Only acting if an Ahelp relevant or while monitoring the behavior breaks the rules.

Scenario 5

A security officer, on code blue, spots a mime breaking into EVA, in response, he shoots the mime with lethal force then takes him to medical, in cuffs. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

The security officer in this scenario was overreacting to the code blue and the break in. The Secoff should have used non-lethals to subdue the mime. I would Ahelp the Security officer asking about why they did what they did and how did they follow escalation, Should they provide context that shows they follow escalation properly a simple verbal warning is all. Should they not provide sufficient context that they followed escalation then a warning/Job ban may be in order.

Scenario 6

A chief engineer has been slacking all round, generally ignoring the responsibilities of the department, despite meteors and gas leaks happening all round. How do you act towards them, if at all?

Heads of staff are held to a higher standard than standard workers. If there is clear evidence that the CE was not directing engineers or Atmos techs to deal with the problem then they are violating the rules and the “Incompetence in Head” role ban/warning should be applied after asking for context in Ahelp.

Scenario 7

You are adminning with 2 other admins, and recieve an aHelp, you start handling it when one of the others butts in to the aHelp correct you. How do you act, if at all?

I will let the other administrator take over and privately message them about the interruption to ask for more context and to why they took it over.

Scenario 8

A passenger arrives on station and starts skulking around in maints. Not preparing weapons or breaking into places, but gathering tools, insulation gloves, wires, gas mask, batteries, etc. How do you act, if at all?

I would monitor the player for any self-antagonizing behavior and leave them be.

Scenario 9

You are playing as the HOS in-game when the only other admin online notifies you that they have to leave. Since you are an important figure, you decide to continue playing for the remainder of the round, going SSD when ahelps occur in order to deal with them. While playing, you arrest the clown for non-lethal assault against the HOP inside the medical bay. Just as you arrive at security with the clown in cuffs, you receive an ahelp from the CMO about their chemist blowing up chem. In order to investigate, you quickly hand the clown over to the warden and tell the warden to “deal with them.” While investigating the CMO’s ahelp, you then receive an ahelp about the warden beheading the cuffed clown. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

As the only Administrator online I would begin with taking notes of what happened and when. I would handle the CMO’s Ahelp first as they were the first to request assistance and clear that issue up first. I would then ahelp the Warden and Clown asking details on what happened making sure to post them in relevant channels should I need to justify any bans/warnings given. Preferably I would ask for assistance from the other administrators online on discord and have them as witness or to issue the ban themselves.

Do you have any further notes or information we should know about you?

I work from Home M-F and am able to get online during my work hours for monitoring.
