I have been temp banned from Wizden for building a completely safe burn chamber in the middle of the station as a tider which someone else blew up. Multiple crew ashed. Oops!

Detailed Questions

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

Admins make sure rounds run smoothly and resolve any issues that can’t be addressed in character. They ensure that crew and antags alike have a fun and fair experience. They prevent sec from beheading every antag they find so they can “win”, and they prevent antags from NRP murderboning the entire medical department for no reason.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

I want to help people and make rounds as enjoyable as possible for other players. I’ve been helped by admins before when I first started playing, and I want to pay it forward I suppose.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?

Clarifying gameplay mechanics for newer players that can’t be explained in character
HRP fax larp from CC

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?

Resolving time transfer tickets

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

Currently, it’s quite poor. Players just NRP walk into departments and steal shit from the lathes. Secoffs no longer care for arresting people and they just try to silently gun down antags. I think the most abysmal role right now is warden, most rounds you don’t get a single inmate as all heretics / lings are beheaded and burned or whenever you do get an actual inmate they just go AFK for their whole sentance.
I also don’t like how almost every shift has evac being called too early. It prevents actual chaos happening, in most shifts antags do nothing. It needs to be more forgiving for players who don’t have hundreds of hours to go loud, but I’m not sure how that could be achieved.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

I always enjoy seeing CC larp announcements, it’s just a fun way to add depth to a round.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

Most of the time when I ahelp something or recieve an ahelp the admin is very receptive and actually tries to work out what happened and what needs to be resolved.
Also, I enjoy when an admin pulls off a good event that everyone enjoys and not just “protag” events where deathsquad is sent and fights an ascended heretic.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

I’ve had multiple bad experiences with RMC admins. One time as the XO (captain), they ordered my arrest and refused to explain the reason. They later malded in end of round OOC about how people were questioning their decision. I think it’s important that when a player is being punished they actually know what they did wrong, as I had to later make a ticket on the discord to work out why my arrest was ordered in the first place.

Scenario Questions

Scenario 1

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

Just tell them “nuh uh” and continue observing the round. As an admin you’re not the storyteller.

Scenario 2

This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.

Firstly, I’d bwoink the captain and tell him to get his arse back to the station. Under no circumstances should the captain leave the station, it completely breaks the gameplay loop of half the antags.
Then, I’d ask the HOS and HOP why they are couping the captain. If they held a vote of no confidence with a valid reason and more than half the command personel voted in favour, then they wouldn’t be punished. Otherwise, I’d give then a command roleban for
incompetent. If the vote of no confidence was valid, then the captain would be command rolebanned instead.
The QM hasn’t done anything wrong, but I’d still ask if they know anything about the coup to get a better view of what happened.
If the clown stole the caps saber by slipping cap or another funny clown gag then they’re fine. If they stole it off cap while he slipped or was crit and just ran off, then that’s less of a funny clown prank and more of grand theft. If the clown was actually attacking people with it or refused to give it back when asked, then they’d get noted or punished. Otherwise, it’s an IC issue.

Scenario 3

You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.

An appeal ban for no notes sounds harsh unless it was something done maliciously. I’d discuss with the admin who pinged me on why they think it should be an indefinite ban, and go with a temp ban if they fail to convince me.

Scenario 4

A brand new player has joined, chosen cargo tech, and instantly rushes to get satchel charges and other salvage gear. How do you act, if at all?

I’d assume they were either a player from a different server who wants to try out goob salv or a raider. If they run off to larvaland with the salv gear then they’re probally fine. Regardless, I’d check their IP to see if they’re multiaccounting since it’s unlikley a completely new player would know how or where satchel charges are. I’d keep a close eye on them to make sure they don’t go off and bomb medbay.

Scenario 5

A security officer, on code blue, spots a mime breaking into EVA, in response, he shoots the mime with lethal force then takes him to medical, in cuffs. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

I’d bwoink the security officer because immediately lethaling the mime is clearly an unreasonable use of force. Secoffs should be held to higher standards and should be expected to know escelation rules. Unless the mime was marked dangerous, then lethal force shouldn’t have been used. I’d temp roleban them from secoff due to unreasonable escalation.

Scenario 6

A chief engineer has been slacking all round, generally ignoring the responsibilities of the department, despite meteors and gas leaks happening all round. How do you act towards them, if at all?

Command staff should be expected to do the job they signed up for. I’d ask them why they aren’t at least attempting to fix the station and roleban them for command incompetence if they can’t give me a good reason as to why half the station is spaced.

Scenario 7

You are adminning with 2 other admins, and recieve an aHelp, you start handling it when one of the others butts in to the aHelp correct you. How do you act, if at all?

I believe ahelps have an admin only chat, so I’d discuss with them on that what the misconception is and we can hopefully agree on the right ruling.

Scenario 8

A passenger arrives on station and starts skulking around in maints. Not preparing weapons or breaking into places, but gathering tools, insulation gloves, wires, gas mask, batteries, etc. How do you act, if at all?

Breaking news: Local tider tides. This is an in character issue for security to deal with (if they commit any crimes, which they haven’t). No intervention is required.

Scenario 9

You are playing as the HOS in-game when the only other admin online notifies you that they have to leave. Since you are an important figure, you decide to continue playing for the remainder of the round, going SSD when ahelps occur in order to deal with them. While playing, you arrest the clown for non-lethal assault against the HOP inside the medical bay. Just as you arrive at security with the clown in cuffs, you receive an ahelp from the CMO about their chemist blowing up chem. In order to investigate, you quickly hand the clown over to the warden and tell the warden to “deal with them.” While investigating the CMO’s ahelp, you then receive an ahelp about the warden beheading the cuffed clown. How do you act, if at all, and to whom?

Firstly, the clown did nothing that warrents being executed. The warden deserves to be rolebanned from security. However, I’m pretty sure admins aren’t meant to interfere with situations they are involved in IC as they may be biased. I would send an ahelp about the warden executing clown for an invalid reason presumably without caps permission and ping another admin to come deal with it. In character I would demote and arrest the warden and try to fix up whats left of the clown.

Do you have any further notes or information we should know about you?
