Ban reason: Not sure if it was officially logged, but should be for posting the soft-a n-word in a gif.

Ban issue: I did what I was banned for, but the ban is unreasonably harsh.

Events leading to the ban

I was mostly (I read the rules but did not study them or anything) aware that slurs, or at least anything considered a “slur” is for the most part a no-go, but I did not think it extended far enough to cover what I posted. I was also similarly unaware that the punishments for rule breaks would be so harsh, and knowing that I wouldn’t have posted what I posted.

Reason the ban should be removed

It’s been almost two months since the ban, which frankly I think for the crime I committed is plenty justification alone for the ban to be rescinded.

As mentioned before, I was both unaware of how seriously something like what I had posted would be taken, nor that it was a serious matter at all (I was made aware after the fact that stuff like this could cause issues for the server as a whole).

I believe I have a clean record outside of this one singular incident, I’ve never caused any problems on the discord or game otherwise and I obviously do not plan to start.

Small clarification(s), I’m 90% sure I was banned on June 9th, 2026, so it would have been a about 2 months and 15 days in total, if it matters.

Secondly, for the issue, I would have liked to put both “the ban is fair, I would like a second chance” and the one currently selected, I broke the rules and received punishment, that’s fine, I just think the length of punishment (indefinite as far as I know, there’s no way for me to check) is quite excessive and would like it to be rescinded based on the circumstances.

Lastly, if this appeal is denied I would at the very least like to request that a proper explanation or reasoning for doing so, I read every ban appeal while in wait and it is quite hard to actually parse the reasoning for appeals or denies, I think responding to ban appeals with responses more like the ones given in the staff complaints sub-forum would be appreciated.

P.S Could the discord rules be posted to the forums? Also, you guys know somethings f’ed up with your wiki right? Did you not secure it or something?

Most servers I’ve been in would have handled the situation with a warning or a timeout for an hour or so, but I don’t really know how ss14 servers handle stuff normally as this is the only one I’ve ever joined.

This whole system of bans and appeals is incredibly strange and Kafkaesque, it really is not that hard to just set up a functioning and logical process that doesn’t also involve wasting everyone’s time. 0 tolerance except when it’s tolerated, permanent ban except you can appeal and get unbanned in a week (what was the point in the ban in the first place then?), making reviews last days for things that could’ve been solved before the ban even happened, inconsistent and bad communication for denying appeals, no real standard or precedent for what gets accepted or denied, could go on and on. What is any of this for?

That’s a very awesome thing to say. I will admit that you do make a good point. Communication and warnings first would be better than instantly banning someone (which we actually do, yes). I still need to fix this mess of how staff know when to warn and when to ban and setting it up when people should be able to appeal.
